Redneck? No. Hillbilly since he is from Tennessee? No. But since he is town raised and Jewish I would say "con man" might be a better term if you were looking for a derog term. Paul is actually a pretty good guy when you meet him which I did when I was a guest in his studio and on his show about 16 or so years ago. He was very cordial and inviting. He is a huge Volunteers fan (UT alum) and if they ever get back to challenging he will be a sight. Butch had him stirred up and predicting an SEC title for UT 4/5 years ago. Very decent guy in person.

I've never watched or listened to his show. So, 
That said, I have absolutely hated him on every guest spot I've watched him do.
Aside from his dorky look, he contributes nothing. I honestly do not think he has a clue about sports. I doubt he has ever played a single organized team sport in his life.
He certainly doesn't understand football. His attempts to critique coaches and programs are also laughable as he couldn't lead himself out of a kiddie pool nor inspire a single other person to do anything.

When he was in Birmingham he had some very good shows. He is an excellent interviewer, but now he is too concerned with appeasing the SECN to ask tough questions.
Paul “used to” do great interviews and he was a very good columnist years ago. IMO, he allowed the 2010 Cecil Newton and Danny Sheridan’s crazy shite ruin him for good. He was nothing more than a Jerry Springer clone after that.

He is a pro at telling you he knew about something big happening from his inside sources after the story has already broke. Always says he was respecting his sources by not coming out with it.

I have watched him a couple times and have seen him on ESPN. He’s just kind of a opinion guy. Don’t think he has the knowledge to breakdown the game to give a great opinion. More of a guy to stir the pot

Not to sound like a pussy but he his not a fan of LSU at all and it comes out on the air if you really listen to it. My cousin did radio sales at WJOX many years ago when Paul was there.He told me back then that this Finebaum guy is very popular in Alabama and hates LSU. I did not know who the hell he was. When he worked is way up to the big time I've always noticed he never says anything good about LSU and if he has to,it's always sideways. He does love Dale Brown though and hates coach O.

Having said that, he knows a lot of people around the SEC. He will never reveal a scandal, but I'm pretty sure he knows about every dirty trick and dirt that happens in the SEC.

He was originally an LSU beat writer. He knows first hand how repulsive the inbreds are down there.
