If this happens it will give me a reason to actually hate LSU as a true Rival.

LSU fans have got to come to terms with the fact that young coaches just don’t want to bring their family to Baton Rouge. Sure a POS slime ball like Will Wade will bring his wife and daughter but he’s the Hugh Freeze of NCAA hoops. The top baseball program in the country can’t pull Dan McDonnell away from Louisville ? Get outta here with that shite. There’s more to it and it starts with the city of BR.

I seriously hope LSU fans kill their chance at Casey here. Sully isn’t leaving Florida.

I didn’t say he was a bad hire. But you’re telling me LSU’s AD hasn’t contacted McDonnell’s agent ? Hell the Cards didn’t even make the tournament. They were blowing that guys phone up last week and unless Casey is some huge, unnecessary smoke screen Dan told the #1 baseball program in the country to go kick frickin rocks.

And you're wondering why an AD with a history for making splash hires doesn't have him at the top of the list.

The Board of Supervisors rejected Sully because of his baggage.

First of all, there is no “baggage”. Just because there’s a rumor going around about Sully’s personal life doesn’t make it true. Secondly, even if it were true, your school is not rejecting a top 3 coach because of it. Remember, we’re talking about the same school who employs a basketball coach who is recorded bribing a player a “strong arse offer” and a football coach who covered up sexual assault.

And that might be possible. He also told Mississippi State, and several other programs the EXACT same thing. Wanna know what Casey has that Dan doesn’t? Rings. He won 3 championships at the worst P5 school in the country. Idk how this is even remotely a bad hire.

What the frick are you talking about? Coaches at lsu live in very very nice parts of baton rouge far away from the bad parts (like any city has). You're an idiot.

Why not keep Paul if they're going for a geezer?

He's won 3x as many national titles as Paul. He's a beast.

He just supported a possible incestual rapist and has never lived anywhere but Oregon.

But he is a fricking monster of a baseball coach.

Retired in 2018 after winning his third title. So kind of.

Casey said he's long considered this move. He told his wife, Susan, last winter that this year might be his last. He told Barnes in the spring. He told his assistant coaches when they returned to Oregon from Omaha, Nebraska, in June. They briefly talked him out of it.

"I feel like I'm letting a lot of people down," said Casey, who fought back tears in delivering his opening statement at a news conference to announce the decision.

So why step aside now? Basically, Casey said, he was worn out and "miserable" at times in recent years. After all, coaching is not supposed to be easy.

"What I expect out of my players," he said, "I expect out of myself."

He said he's "not positive" he can give that any longer.

Not mentioned Thursday was Luke Heimlich, the Beavers' former star pitcher who pleaded guilty in 2012 to felony child molestation. The Oregonian newspaper reported in June 2017 that Heimlich had admitted to inappropriate contact with his niece, who was 6 at the time of Heimlich's court proceedings in his home state of Washington.

Heimlich skipped the final two rounds of the 2017 postseason, including the CWS, at which Oregon State finished third. He rejoined the team this year with the support of Casey and Oregon State President Ed Ray.

But Heimlich, who maintained his innocence in multiple interviews, was bypassed again by pro baseball in June despite winning 15 of 16 decisions before the 40-round draft.

The situation took a toll on Casey. Measured in nearly all situations, the coach largely refused to comment publicly on Heimlich's legal matter over the past 16 months, and said before the Beavers' super-regional sweep of Minnesota that he was frustrated with the mountain of negative publicity.

"If we could just coach," Casey said Thursday, "guys would coach for a long time. But that's not how it works. I get it. It's life. Life's not easy."

It will remain a complex piece of Casey's legacy.

He got burned out and backed a child molester. For me, that's enough to cross him off the list. Add in his age and I think the cons outweigh the pros here.

I have a hard time believing Lsu couldn't have gotten someone like Vitello, Godwin, Jarrett, or any much of really good coaches that don't come with the baggage.
