IMO, the schedule either needs to move to nine games and keep the permanent division rivals, or stay at 8 and rotate all opposite division games.

I'd like to see something similar to what the NFL does... 1st in west plays 1st in east from previous year, and so on...

This will likely result in Alabama getting an even easier schedule

TSIO and tDSOR are traditionally great games. Teams rise and fall but there is a strong majority of the games that are great instead of blowouts.

Gotta preserve those traditional rivalries against Vandy, Kentucky, and Mizzou

Even though 2013 is not a permanent sched, this was already done to accommodate CBS for this year. I know a few in the East were moved but not sure which as I don't keep up with everyone's sched. I know we had LSU moved to the week before Tday which last year was a cluster frick for them as there were a lot of FCS games. We also had the Bama game moved into Sept when traditionally there are few good matchups.

The 2014 schedule will probably be the permanent one but you better believe the tv execs are getting a ton of input. They want ratings. But that's not only good for them, it's good for us from an exposure standpoint to have a key game each week that is the focus of the media.

They also brought up that if ESPN get the network (almost positive they will) they may start to put the #2 game on the SEC network sometimes instead of the main ESPNs. To force more people to get that channel to see the games.

That is ESPN's plan.

They learned their lesson with the LHN. Originally it was just going to be just tier 3 content, so one OOC game a year. But that wasn't nearly enough and the game was too crappy, so they have to cut a deal with Fox to basically allow a Tier 2 game (that Fox owned) to drop to the LHN.

To let the LHN have a conference game every year, Fox is asking for a pound of flesh. For example next year Fox will get to broadcast Texas's Thanksgiving game as part of the deal.

ESPN doesn't want to get caught with inferior content again, so the deal will allow Tier 2 and 3 to mix completely.

9 games would be a cluster. Plus... it would eliminate 7 games for the conference. And eliminate home games on a bi-annual basis.

Losing rival inter-divisional games isn't going to happen either.

Your best bet is to add a couple of teams and try for a different method.

So long as we stay at 14, the current setup won't (and shouldn't) change.

I think they need to go to a 9 game schedule. The only way to ensure someone like A&M gets one permanent opponent, one traditional hard opponent, one easy opponent.

USC, Florida, Kentucky one year.
USC, Georgia, Vanderbilt the next.
USC, Tennessee, Mizzou the next.

Alabama would play;

UT, USC, Kentucky
UT, Georgia, Vandy
UT, Florida, Mizzou.

etc, etc, etc.

The SEC Network will make Nick retire
Can you imagine ESPN making Saban come up to Charlotte to do something.

I would like to see less of the "cupcake" weekends. Seems like about the 3rd to last weekend of the season, right before everyone starts the rival games, the whole SEC plays cupcake teams. Makes for a shitty weekend of football.

I will take that bad single weekend if it means we dominate the non conference games the following week. If the SEC + ESPN deal upsets the apple cart for the rival games the following week it will be the beginning of the end for the SEC. The non conference SoS wins more than offset the "tune up and reset" games the previous week.

What would he need to do in Charlotte? Is he going to be overlaying graphics on the film? Or working in a cubicle putting together potential stories for the week? Or editing film to air? It's a production studio. They may have a few in studio programs but each campus will have a satellite crew. Interviews and such will be done on campus (everyone will likely even get a standard SEC interview room).

The freak out about the production studio being in Charlotte is one of the weirdest things ever. It could be in Hong Kong and it would have very little impact on the SEC. It's just a bunch of people doing the background tv work. It seems like freaking out because KFC is headquartered in Louisville as if it will taint the chicken you get in Lexington.

How would switching to a 9 game schedule "eliminate 7 games for the conference"?

I know this may seem new to the folks in Texas but IMG College was built around Collegiate Licensing (an Alabama alumni) and Host Communications (a Kentucky alumni) meaning that the SEC owned the boardrooms and they had SEC employees. Since IMG bought ISP (which was the smaller company) they have moved everything to ACC country.

As big of a stink as TAMU made about the LHN you would think the folks in College Station would understand this better than anybody in having your people in charge at the top instead of your opposition. As much as TAMU bitches about anti TAMU bias why would you not understand the SEC no longer controls the folks in the boardrooms and broadcast decision makers no longer being SEC folks and being replaced by ACC / Big East / B1G folks?

14 teams play 4 non-conference games. That's 56 games total for the conference.

With 8 conference games right now, that's 56 games total for the conference (7 x 8 = 56).

That makes the entire SEC slate at 112 games.

------------

If you go to 3 non-conference games, then you have 42 games total for the conference (14 x 3 = 42).

And 9 conference games equals 63 games for the conference (7 x 9 = 63).

That's 105 total games for the SEC Network and all of the TV rights to fight over.

112 is 7 more than 105.
That's fewer games for the SEC Network to make money.
