I don't really understand the pundits discounting MSU, I think they will be a pretty good team. They have the best QB in the conference returning, looks like they have upgraded receivers and D line looks good and the secondary is a strength. If there is a question, it may be along their OLine but they use more of a shift and block vs power type scheme, they look to make a crease in the defense. They gutted us with it last year. I won't be surprised if they finish in the top 3 in the west.

I would be surprised if it wasn't either Bama, LSU or Au.
14 Bama
13 Au
12 Bama
11 LSU
10 Au
09 Bama
08 Bama
07 LSU
06 Ark
When was the last time a non Big 3 in the West was in the SECCG? Yep, it was 9 years ago and overall only 4 tines in 23 years has a team not Bama, LSU or Au.

Arkansas loses defensive starters and has a brutal road schedule.
Agree on the schedule, but if losing 3 starters on D makes this list, Ill take it. Who in the West didnt lose 3 D starters?

False
Arkansas has been exactly 3 times alone

Yep, I edited my post.
Ark has had some good team and I've Always liked Ark. One of the few away games that I have not made and really want to go. Wish I would have gone when I was at Bama in the early 90s. Beautiful part of the country.

Yes the Hogs have been 3 times, State once, and TAM and Bears zero if recall correctly with no wins.

In 2010, everyone but Ole Miss finished with at least 9 wins. In 2011, we had 3 teams finish in the top-5. But from top-to-bottom, this does look like the strongest the SEC-W has ever been.
I still find the 2010 standings incredible:
Auburn 14-0
LSU 11-2
Arkansas 10-3
Alabama 10-3
MSU 9-4
Ole Miss 4-8
That's a pretty incredible season. I guess that'll be the measuring stick. Hopefully, we replicate those exact results this year (plus 1 W for Auburn). I could live with 15-0.

I was with you until this...
LSU D will be fine. Its going to be tough to find a better secondary in the country. DL with the addition Of Coach O should improve. Might not have the depth of years past but the top end will be enough.
A&M loses 3 games in the west at least. Bama, barner, LSU. Cant sleep on the others either....

but their defense will likely regress. I think auburn and A&M determine the west.

With the stockpile of talent at Alabama only coaching mistakes has held them back the last two years.

My point was not about talent, but more play calls/scheme/mentality.
You just can't compare Steele to Chavis.

I agree with a lot you stated except...
2010 I believe mallet was there but.. Cam Newton was also at AU. Unless you'd pick mallet over Newton and youd be one of the few. But Mallet was pretty efficient as well.
I even doubt it's a homer pick to say Newton >>> Mallett

I think people are down on them because they lost a decent amount of starters. They have no chance with out Dak and even you say the biggest question is the OL. They don't have the talent the rest of the conference has besides maybe Arkansas . I seen MSU had the worst odds of any team to win the west. So people putting money on the games seem to agree.

Parity in the West is the biggest take away from my post forecasting the season.
6 of 7 SEC West are projected to win 4 or 5 SEC games.
Looking like the SEC west might knock each other out of the national top 4..

Last year.
There are 3 or 4 teams this year who really don't have a realistic shot to win the West.
