Sad how soft and sissy the whole West Coast has become. Pitiful
California residents moved to Oregon and Washington state in the 80's-90's but brought their liberal views with them.
look how that has worked out.
it's a cancer this socialist type thinking.
our education system in this country was corrupted years ago. we are seeing the results of indoctrinating kids at an early age.
keep your powder dry.

It's all relative
The Players have no control over their own likeness, something everyone has, based on our Constitution
Also, the Players combined with the Coaches & Staff gross anywhere from $100 Million to $200 Million each season, grossing that much Money for each yr of your eligibility for the Athl Dept to redistribute to Money losing Sports that don't attempt to earn any money, makes that "free degree" relative
In fact grossing that much money each yr for a free degree is no longer a good deal, I recommend a strike this season to put the final nail in the College Sports coffin ,unless of course they agree to pay the Players larger stipends
Dumb take.
The vast majority of players on a college team would see no money from selling their "likeness" since they're unknowns.
Sure itd be nice for a star, but a third string tailback, not so much.
That third string tailback may never see the NFL but he has a chance to earn a degree free and clear, something that can set him much farther down the path of life if he's smart about it.
Its very much a "good deal" for someone like that, someone who may have never had the chance to go to college otherwise.

A fraction of a percent of college players are marketable by themselves. Ask yourself this. How many minor league baseball players make money “off their likeness”? The system ain’t broken because a handful of players each year actually could make money on the open market were they allowed.
And if players are on salaries, they shouldn’t get scholarships on top of that. They should take out loans or pay out of pocket like the rest of us.
Despite ignorant fools like peejaytroll, the athletes need the universities and their resources more than the schools need the athletes.

It’s cute how everyone thinks this will end with only the PAC-12.

The NCAA estimates something like 1.6% of those that play college football actually make it to the NFL and even among those, the vast majority won't last more than a couple of years.
Very few of that 1.6% would make any kind of substantial money in endorsements, etc.
Now think about all the scholarships that college athletics provide for the kids who will never be pros, think about all the networking college athletics opens the door on for them not to mention all of the benefits they receive such as medical care and nutrition and "swag."
Pretending that college athletes are some version of "oppressed" is laughable at best but what do you expect from a group of people that likes to pretend that black folks are killed daily by white supremacist citizens and police?

It’s not so cut and dry. The universities want a winning team first and for most. Start pulling scholarships and see how fast recruiting dries up. Coaches want to win to keep their jobs and they won’t win by cutting contributors for their political stance and it would be a quickly way to lose your locker room and lose recruits.

Not once have I ever mentioned salaries
I have mentioned about a thousand times they should get enhanced stipends, there is a huge difference

Wow!!
Thanks for that dose of reality, I was under the impression that reality was impossible to find on this site
The Majority of Fans around here act like CFB is being played in 1820 instead of 2020

Waxing poetic about the value of an Education that is debt free, and about the small percentages that move on to the Pros DOES NOTHING TO ADDRESS ALL THE MONEY GENERATED AT THE P5 LEVEL
The 70 P5 Colleges combined to gross about $5 Billion Dollars each season from TV & Media Rights, Merch, Parking, Tickets, Concessions, etc -----Money down the Road at the NFL Level does nothing to address THAT 5 BILLION, a full scholly is not a fair enough of a trade off when 70 colleges (70 x 85 players each school = 5950 total) can gross $5Billion, you can use $4 Billion to make the debate more fair in your favor
Only Fans with a "certain agenda" do everything in their Power to ignore this windfall at those 70 P5 Colleges
So what is your real agenda, after all in America when a group creates a huge Financial windfall they usually get to share in the windfall, a free scholly isn't enough in this Era of multi Billion dollar TV Deals

How do you suggest this works?
Pay everyone a flat rate? Then a starter "sits out" because a backup is making the same as him.
Should the starting quarterback at Troy make the same as the starting quarterback at Alabama depsite the Alabama quarterback "generating" more $$$ than the Troy quarterback?
Paying players opens a whole other can of worms I'm not sure you're prepared for.

It's better than not paying the Players and allowing the HC to make $9 million per year with no fuss from anyone
A stipend would the be the same for all Revenue Athletes, those that don't generate Revenue don't get the stipend
So EIGHT FIGURE BUYOUTS are just "a part of doing Biz in the mighty SEC" but treating the Players more fairly finance wise and you act like the Earth will stop rotating on its Axis
Go ahead and spill it, what is your real agenda?

Go suit up for HBCUs if thats what they want. Nowhere does it state we the fans have to root for them, the players.
The harsh reality is we root for our schools and DGAF about whos wearing the jersey. These are OUR schools and OUR traditions. They wanna go do some black power bullshite go play in the SWAC. Otherwise shut the frick up suit up and be grateful for the opportunity.
Without we the fans they have zero funding, zero perks, and zero voice. Its time for the children to shut the frick up and adults to take charge.
