I don’t think Brian Kelly is overrated. I think Notre Dame is overrated as a program. It’s incredibly hard to recruit a team full of Alabama or Ohio State caliber players with the academic standards Kelly has to deal with.

The media does overrate his players, however as a fundamentally sound coach, he is not overrated

Brian Kelly is not over rated at all, he’s been a winner at every stop. Look at what he did before Notre Dame. The guy can coach.

Everybody wins at Boise State.
With the Pac Ten what it is, Washington should be dominating that conference like Oklahoma and Ohio State do theirs, but it hasn't happened.

His run in Philly took the shine off and last season was enough to keep it off permanently. I don't know anybody who thinks Chip Kelly is good anymore.

The thing is, losing to bad teams is a very real part of Mike Leach's resume. Losing to a very bad UCLA team this year is no different that what happens most every year.
Last season he lost to 5-7 USC which cost him a PAC 12 North Title.... and likely a PAC 12 Conference Title and a trip to the Rose Bowl.
In 2015, he lost to FCS Portland State despite having a 9-win team that year.
In 2014, he lost to three teams that had 6 losses or more.
In 2012 he even lost to 1-11 Colorado... the Buffs only win of the season.
