People are always saying that it's the second guy that gets called for the penalty. A guy gets shoved and then a guy pushes back and then the refs hit the 2nd guy with the penalty.
In this case, the refs got it right by punishing the first guy.

People should not be implying that the refs were favoring Bama with bad calls.
People should be coming right out and saying that the refs were favoring Bama with bad calls.

Holy shite this is a lot of stupidity and crying in one thread. Even for the rant. From an obvious no dog in the fight unbiased Auburn fan. To the guy that doesn't know the rules of football yet starts a thread talking about bad officiating of the rules he doesn't even know.
I agree there were bad calls but it went both ways . Pi was not called the same all day . If they had have been called you would be here whining about Bama getting pi calls and winning in regulation . The game was called very evenly hence the total for both teams .
LSU played a great game and I think as Bama fans we were lucky to get a win. Not because of officiating but because we made the plays late and you made mistakes and didn't execute.

Bama fans saw that completely the opposite from you. Go figure.

And I am not implying the ref was cheating for Alabama.I would hope not since 74 clearly pushed the guy. Whether or not he was pushed first, I don't know. But, a cooler head would have taken the push and not gotten caught in retaliation. Game situations should not change the rules of the games. That would make the referees in control of the game; not the players.
Cooler heads were not to be found because the officials were allowing those antics for most of the second half. The big problem with that call is that the official who threw the flag on Alexander, had turned away from a 'Bama player shoving an LSU player. Tom Ritter, the head official can be seen observing the same thing the Umpire saw and he wasn't about to pull a flag in that situation. The guy who pulled on Alexander and then got shoved for it should have been flagged; offsetting and "hey guys let's settle down." Just a bad call, as Gary Danielson observed a couple of times.

What is undeniable is that LSU fans began blaming the officials before the game was even played and not surprising that you found anything that would support your belief.

A distinction is made in the NCAA rules, which I read this morning, between pushing before the whistle(legal) and pushing after the whistle (illegal) ...in this case Alexander was still pushing after at least 4 blasts of the whistle

How about the player making good decisions in "great games"?
How about penalizing both players that made poor decisions on the play instead of just one of them?

Except they didn't. The Bama player had Alexanders leg with both hands and was pulling on it before he was shoved off.

As a Mizzou fan I can tell you are new to this. That one call didn't lose the game for LSU. But it was odd that all the officials got together and discussed it and could've had offsetting penalties considering all the shoving going on at that point.
Also, Ritter (the head ref) of that game has a daughter enrolled at Bama and the head of officiating is Steve Shaw who graduated from Alabama. Offices are in Birmingham as well.
All coincidental of course. No way there is ever bias. I'm not a "refs biased against" kind of guy, but more of a "refs biased favoring Alabama/auburn" kind of guy. Seen it too many times.
I am utterly flabbergasted Auburn had both of those fumbles (correct call of course) go against them at home.
Keep your eyes peeled, as there's more Bama favoritism on its way. Sure to be apparent this Saturday.

So you saw 74 push the guy but didn't see the Bama guy trying to tear said guys leg off?? Should have been off setting period. For idiots saying it doesn't change the game are mildly retarded.

It didn't cost LSU the game--LSU had ample opportunity to win after that call, but it dramatically changed the complexion and LSU (like most teams) were playing for FG and not TD. LSU very much choked, again, and handed over a game it had won, again.
It was very ticky tack and could have been called on most any player at that stage. Had he hit in in the helmet, ok, but that was weak sauce.

ALL of the pushing and tugging being discussed was after the whistle. Who in frick gives a shite about that before the whistle. The Umpire who threw the flag turned away from a 'Bama player who was shoving an LSU player, to throw a flag against Alexander, who by the way was shoving a guy who had just let go of his leg. Ritter was right there and did not pull his flag. He should have insisted on both players being flagged at that juncture of the contest.

Oh brother, the force of dumb is with this one.
There was no P.I. on Bama. And the ball should have never been spotted on the one.
A Baylor fan speaking about Bama
when your sorry azz team were given the TCU game on two horrible calls.
One a pass interference against Baylor that would have won the game for TCU, and a bogus pass. Interference on TCU that gave you the winning score.
Don't worry Baylor fan, with that pathetic schedule you have zero shot.

Refs didn't cost LSU the win.
Chavis and his prevent D again in TS gave Bama a last second score. Then LSU's terrible play calling in OT did.
Yeah, it should have been offsetting call. And there was also potential PI in OT, but niether flag/no flag is why LSU lost.
