Outsiders View of a Bad Call

I didn't have a rooting interest one way or the other, but I am not sure how that ref makes that call on LSU's lineman late in the game. In great games, and that was a great game, ref's should be a little more careful with their whistles. They should not one of the deciding factors in the game.
I have seen this in more than a few SEC games this year. I am not sure who is the director of officiating in the SEC, but they need to make sure their refs get onboard and don't damage the SEC brand by really bad calls in nationally telecast games.

Because the brand matters more than getting a call right.

It should have been offsetting but it doesn't matter, your players have to be smart enough to not act like idiots in that situation. Literally cost them the game.

And I am not implying the ref was cheating for Alabama. I think it was an overzealous ref. That being said incompetence is almost as bad as cheating.
My comment wasn't concerning the game itself, only that I have noticed more than a few bad calls by SEC refs in big games. The SEC is too good of league than to be decided by ref calls.

bammers running their mouths about the referees not calling holding on Auburn, but that was at least the 3rd game this year when the referees have made some questionable call in Alabama's favor. That doesn't even include bs penalties like holding that people could argue were missed in a lot of games

People keep saying it cost LSU the game, but that isn't true. Bama would have went for the end zone instead of kicking the field goal at the end of the game and scored on the same play they did in OT. LSU allowed Bama to get the ball on the 35 because squib kicking is the stupidest thing in all of sports. Not to mention a few huge 3rd down conversions. In OT everyone knew it was Bama's game.

quote:I would hope not since 74 clearly pushed the guy. Whether or not he was pushed first, I don't know. But, a cooler head would have taken the push and not gotten caught in retaliation. Game situations should not change the rules of the games. That would make the referees in control of the game; not the players.
And I am not implying the ref was cheating for Alabama.

Dear sweet Jesus. Do you even Shon Coleman?

How many times does it have to be repeated it wasn't a squib kick? The kid mishit it. And the actual difference was really only 10 yards so still should have tackled Bama inbounds on D.

The officials were shite in that game, but they sucked for both teams.

I think that particular call was appropriate, but I also think a non-call would have been fine. Cool thinking by LSU's lineman would have made it academic.
The play that really stays with me was the failure to review Bama's long third down pass completion on their final drive in regulation. I wasn't able to see if it was a completion, and it looked tight enough to merit a review by the officials, but they didn't call for one. That one left me scratching my head.

Coach Miles said his upstairs staff advised him that it was a catch, and not worth risking a challenge. I will try to find the link.

Same could have been said for the BS personal foul penalty on Leon Brown on our OT touchdown drive on the play that fat boy OL Brandon Greene caught a pass that took it down to the one. Instead of first and goal from the 1. It was first and 10 from the 16. If we hadn't scored there - that penalty would have been killer.
But you know what? We went for the win. LSU could have stopped us - but they didn't. So the penalty ended up not mattering.
Suck it up.

The whining is amusing but does not comport with reality ....
1. The ball shouldn't have been spotted at the one but at the 20.
2.The LSU lineman was the only player that kept pushing after the whistle blew at least 4 times.
(go back and watch it)
3 The Brown foul was much more questionable than the one on LSU because the whistle had not yet sounded.
Calls I saw that should have been made on LSU and were not....
1. Hand holding on White in the end zone in the end zone clearly cost us 7 points.
2. Deandrew White was interfered with on the bomb threw on the final drive...Danielson said it could have been called.
3. The creepy LSU player that pulled down our linebackers pants while the play was ongoing should have been penalized or ejected.
4 I saw at least three good holds by LSU lineman... the last one coming on the final play
My point is that we could all whine about the Refs. However, you could not pay me enough to be a Ref in the SEC ....especially in Death Valley
ETA: the Jones catch was a catch or at a minimum there was not evidence presented to overturn it.

Have you seen the Gump pulling our lineman's leg? It's a no call OR off-setting flags.
As for the rest of your post, I can't imagine why a Gump would

The better team didn't win
sux to hear it, huh?

I was glad that on the repay it was a catch because I knew had it not been reviewed and he had trapped it that it would have tainted the win
