Ok. Yeah, good explanation. With how dominant they’ve looked recently I was wondering why OU was not hosting a Regional. Is it the pitching or hitting (or both) that has improved?

Nathan Dettmer RHP has been A&M’s #1 starter

Well, looking at all teams in regionals and supers and how many unranked are making it to Omaha - baseball uses RPI way too much in rankings.

So OU who started slow and came on strong was ignored and then committee picked regional teams “before” B12 conf championship was done (which OU won).

Then the people picking regionals have been biased all season seeing X teams listed in rankings and RPI overuse.

Any sane fan who saw what OU was doing late and in B12 CC knew they deserved a regional.

The game 1 match-up does not look good for A&M. We tend to do better when we can chase the starter and feast on a weak bullpen. Hard to see that happening in game 1.

these two head coaches have big12 history

Schloss at TCU was 7-3 versus Skip Johnson at OU

both teams are hot right now, game should be a high scoring battle

OU looks solid

Going to be great game. I think winner of our game Friday will win our side of the bracket.

Most of the question has been answered, but OU plays a lot of "small ball" like the Cardinals Whitey Herzog did back in the '80s, very aggressive on the basepaths and putting the ball in play. They also have been lights out on defense over the last month, especially in the outfield. If you can get to the pitching early and put them behind fast, they have a hard time, if you let them stay in, they will damage you over time.
I look at the games and still don't know how we are talking about this, every series I saw them play I could not believe how they rose to the occasion, I certainly did not expect them to be here, and every game I keep thinking if the baseball gods are going to sober up.

Don’t know anything about VT, but that Super Regional series wasn’t really that close. Couple that with a dominant performance in the Regional.

They have a lineup of killers. What OU did to them was imnpressive.

This is the best explanation on RPI reliance I have heard all year. Kudos. I hope they do away with it as it hasn't worked out like they thought it would.

Who will A&M start on Friday? I haven’t seen a consistent pattern for y’all’s #1 starter based on the box scores I’ve reviewed. Looking forward to a good, clean ballgame!

Dallas or Dettmer. No decision has been announced. I know the lineup is very different, but Dallas did have some success last year vs OU. 6 IP, 1 R, 8 K. He got Graham & Crooks to go 0fer with 3 Ks. But lefties usually have more success against him.

Michael looks to be a workhorse. Any chance he's wearing down? Used 4x in 5 days at the Big 12 tourney, twice in regionals (including a 6-inning start), then twice in supers.

I would assume Bennett is 100% starting game 1, right?

Bennett looks so different from the rest of the staff and college pitchers in general. Pitches like a pro

Outside of Graham, not a ton of HR pop.

which is funny because he looks like he weighs 120 soaking wet...

Days off / no double headers in the CWS means you can reply more on the top of your staff than the regionals / Supers correct?

So Bennet could come back and pitch again Tuesday or Wends if OU still in it

As for the closer first 3 games for OU would be Friday-Sunday-Tuesday/Wednesday, so plenty of rest to pitch in 2-3 of those games for a reliever

I don't start watching OU baseball until the Big 12 Tourney so I don't know much

Agree, its nice to have some great discussion between different fanbases. I’m sure after series is over everyone goes back to hating each other lol - but as fans its great to get different perspectives about each fans team.

Hats off to the posters o both sides I hope we can keep it up through the 3 games (or 2).

From what I remember from the local talking heads is that OU’s home capacity is small and their ballpark is not up to modern code, which is true. Gladly a much needed remodel and upgrade are in the works. There are many upgrades taking place across all athletics, and is desperately needed to compete with other SEC schools.

OU will definitely need some money injected in. They'll come into the conference 16/16 in facilities for baseball.
