Tonight’s matchup with Georgia in the CWS means OU Baseball has now faced:

ACC regular season & tourney champs (GT)

B12 regular season & tourney champs (KU)

SEC regular season & tourney champs (UGA)

… in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

If we can run the SEC gauntlet perhaps we can face them for title. We have a tough road ahead though.

Yeah - that's how you get to Omaha. Happens to most teams every year that get there. That's why people making fun of Ole Miss are ridiculous. It takes a lot of things falling into place to make it to Omaha. I mean look at UCLA. They couldn't even get out of their Regional.

“The JUCO guys, I just think that they’ve had their teeth kicked in a little bit. They’re hungry.”

Oklahoma has more junior college players (13) on its roster than any team in the CWS.

Skip Johnson on JUCO players: "I was a junior college coach for 16 years, and I think what really stands out to me is most of those guys are tougher... I think my biggest thing is you’re not going to ever really play for me as a head coach if you’re not tough. You’ve got to be able to persevere in this game."

They were fools gold IMO. I said that when they got a super.

They had been 10 run ruled 6 times this season including to St. freaking Francis whoever that is. They arent a serious baseball program.

Bingo, which is why it’s hilarious to me when teams talk trash about teams making it to Omaha and not winning the title. Just getting there is incredibly difficult.

Agree. And baseball is the one sport that if you can just make the regionals, you have a chance to go all the way. OU was dogshit down the stretch and lost game 1 in SEC tourney. But they have been on fire during the playoffs.

I have no idea if they can make the final bit its great to see how hard they fought to get here. I credit the SEC reg season for that, 10 series where each one is like a super regional.

I also think Skip was thinking ahead late season during the rough finish and was planning out then how to go far. By pacing pitchers and using more less used bench pitchers to get some reps.

But to make it to final 8 teams is a really big achievement. And every team here earned it

Especially as a 2 or lower seed. They have to fight every game to get there. Seems like Oregon State won as a 4 seed. Ole Miss was last one in 2022 but I don't think they were a 4 seed. They get things wrong as UCLA proves but the competition is so great. And it seems like even the smallest of schools has at least one ace pitcher. It's going to get crazier as more kids choose college over riding a bus a 1,000 miles and eating sandwiches in Minor A leagues.
