The game I referenced was in the early 80's, which predates a lot of the other ones mentioned.

An Alabama fan claimed it was in like 92 when the pollsters had been hating on the SEC all season and they stomped Miami, they started chanting SEC SEC SEC to mock the media.

I know Arkansas chanted it against Texas after the win in LR in 1991, but it wouldn't be the first time Bama copied us, look at their uniforms they still use today...

It is the first documented "SEC" chant, so yes. But I'm sure many of the founding members, UGA included, have been using it for years against OOC opponents.

First time I ever heard it was in the Motor City Bowl when Ole Miss beat Marshall. I'm sure it probably goes really far back.

If Im not mistaken, UGA players were chanting it after the Dawgs beat UF in 1980 in the "Run,Linsey, run" game.

It started in 91.

True story.

I was in Central America at the time. Had been dealing with some bad guys down in Honduras and Costa Rica, but this particular weekend I caught a hop over to Panama City, Panama for a little R & R with a couple of sweet Colombian babes named Claudia and Victoria. Light skinned green eyed beauties who loved them some American greenback along with my johnson.

So I'm laid up with those two, toking some wicked negro bud they had copped for me when they heard I was coming, and I hear over armed forces radio while laying up there in my bungalow overlooking the Pacific ... getting my johnson worked over by those two crazy girls, I hear this broadcast, "and today the SEC unanimously agreed to invite South Carolina into the SEC ... and South Carolina accepted ..."

At which time, and I remember this distinctively, I rolled Claudia off of me and I ran over to the window and started chanting SEC! SEC! SEC!

That was when it first started I'm pretty sure.

I have some naked pictures of Claudia I took that I can share with y'all if the mods pre approve it? She was a bit of an exhibitionist. Victoria was shy but get those two together and anything went in those days ... SEC! SEC! SEC! yessir - I remember that like it was yesterday.

Nah...... not new or exclusive to the conference. They chant it every morning at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The SEC just needs to get over itself...

I know for sure Georgia players were doing it as far back as the early 80s. I saw them chanting it in their locker room after a big win during the Herschel Walker era. I think the documentary was part of the SEC Storied series.

After Auburn got screwed in 2004 in favor of worthless Oklahoma, most of the SEC was pissed. Especially after OU got waxed like a pack of bitches.

2006 comes along and the media is again calling for a match up that excludes the SEC champs. The leagues fans start to grumble and anger starts to build. Well, somehow common sense reigns and Florida is voted into the BCS Championship. For the next month ESPN and other slavish idiots in sports media basically fellate Ohio St. Meanwhile the SEC fans as a whole get angrier. People on local and regional radio shows fuss for 5 weeks. Florida fans fuss as well. Lo and Behold the underdog obliterates the media favorites and in a swell of not only school pride, but Southern, SEC pride they begin the chant.

I'm aware that at various times in the past it's been said, but that was the first time "SEC! SEC! SEC!" was understood on a national level of consciousness to mean...

"Screw you, you obtuse, self absorbed, narcissistic, Northeastern, Midwestern, West Coast douchebags! We are the superior league and it's no surprise to us. DEAL WITH IT!!!"

It goes back earlier than the 90's. I heard it watching the Herschel ESPN special, so early 80's at a min.

I remember it being done plenty before this, but the poster is correct that this was the first time the entire country noticed, and it caused a monumental shift in the national pecking order. Of course it also needed to be sustained on the biggest stages for it to become burned into the American concious as it totally has.

I remember that, but we didn't start it. Pretty sure it was used here and there for years to piss other conferences off.
It did become a regular tradition after the UF/tOSU game.

Did neither of yall read the OP? The situation in the OP was from 1983. And surely yall have been watching SEC football long enough to know that that chant has been around longer than 2006.

LSU-Notre Dame in the 2006 Sugar Bowl is the first time I remember it being a "thing". It was posted all over the web and UF fans followed suit against tOSU a few days later.
