It's laughable to claim a football national title if it wasn't awarded by the AP or UPI.
I take it one step further
The only legitimate national titles
Are from the beginning of the BCS going forward

If the AP and UPI polls cease to exist will you still count Oklahoma's Nat'l championships? They're all Mythical National Champions prior to the playoff format according to your logic.

Of course Arkansas is the natty champion that year.
The National Championships were awarded in November.
The Bowl games were played over a month later in Jan. When Alabama entered that bowl game, they were announced as that years National Champion.
The title you claim is based on the FWAA. Which was a poll done by 5 guys in secret after the bowl games trying to gain attention and push an agenda. I honestly have no idea why anyone thinks it's valid.

I mean, their agenda worked well enough to get the AP to change the following year, so maybe that's why?

No, the format was changed because of the political environment and what was going on during the early 60s.
The very next year Alabama wins it because of the bowl game, so they changed it back.

1965 Michigan St., Alabama FWAA, NFF, UPI, AP
1964 Alabama, Arkansas, Notre Dame AP, UPI, FWAA, NFF
The ncaa recognizes Arkansas’s 1964 championship and Michigan State’s 1965 championship.
alabama got an atta boy both years.

Gee whiz...I think I may go into a deep, dark depression over the fact that UGA didn't make this elite list of teams that...uh...wait a minute....what was the topic of this thread again?
God almighty in Heaven, thank you for spring football practice!!

I will take it one step further. There are only three schools with National Championships in football, basketball, and baseball. Only one SEC and two Big Ten and only one of the three to have done it in the last 50 years.

The NCAA does not recognize championships or anything of the sort. What does that even mean?
If you believe otherwise, please show me the guidelines they follow to "recognize" them.
The fact of the matter is the NCAA is not at all involved in the process of deciding college football national championships.

Yet they recognize Arkansas’s 1964 championship. Google it. And simmer down, it’s not that big a deal.

Arkansas also beat the only team to beat Alabama

I guess Alabama needs to give up all their pre-65 national championships after all they were just exhibitions

No, they don't. Once again, if such a thing exists you can surely point me to the guidelines they've established for recognizing them.
The only thing you can link is some article written by some random editor dude, of which is constantly changing. That's your validation?

Even RollTide1987 recognizes 1964 for Arkansas.

It was NCAA.com. Google it. Bless your heart, this really bothers you. Take a Midol and relax.

The Arkansas title in 1964 is equivalent to the 2017 UCF crown.

It was in 1964, way before today’s rules. But you are probably too young to know how things were done back then. Go enjoy your wnba dpoy trophy.

[ Congrats on winning your exhibition game I guess.
I watched bowl games back then. There were 3 tv networks so teams didn’t get to be on tv very often if at all and the bowl games were a huge deal. Any coach who didn’t take them seriously would be looking for a job, unlike today when the players don’t even show up.
To say those games were a joke is just ignorance of how things were and stupid to say.
Those were the best times of sports…..
