I don't get the whole "they don't belong" schtick.

Auburn brings tradition and a fun opponent to play against every year. We grew up playing with them and will die playing against them. Those stats are good on paper but I'll never enjoy competing against Texas A&M the way I enjoy competing against Auburn. College sports don't always have to be about what makes the most sense on paper or who brings in the most money. It's more fun when you're playing teams who you have familiarity with and have decades of tradition and competition with.

That's not near Columbia, it's about four hours away and much closer to Fayetteville.
They have a completely different kind of people up in Columbia, compared to SW Missouri. They're good folks in SW Missouri, but Columbia is a freak show that resembles San Francisco, Seattle and Portland.

Most of the student body is either from St. Louis or Chicago. So it makes sense.

I won't pretend to know the absolute truth, but there were definitely stories around at the time that UF had sworn to never accept FSU in the conference.

This is a lie. FSU had an offer to join the SEC, but Bowden and their AD chose the ACC instead. Since then, UF has blocked them in their alliance with UGA (GT), SC (Clemson), and Kentucky (Louisville)
