Just because we had two of the best corners (ever) to play college ball at LSU in just a few short years does not mean that individually they are not "once in a generation" type talents.
So, once again, just so we're clear, you are proclaiming Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson to both be in the top 10-15 players to ever play college football?
The whole point of this thread was to point out the fact that this specific thread is thrown around too lightly. And that is exactly what you all are doing. Just because someone was a great player or All-SEC, or an All-American in a particular year. A once in a generation, while it literally does not happen once every 10 or 15 years is a transcendent talent that will be a legend decades down the road a la Bo or Herschel.
Champ Bailey.

Obviously JFF, but Von Miller was a special, special talent.

Scary good. Looks like he was born specifically to wear pads and play that position.

Still waiting on that evidence, pal. Any day now...

You are so far lost in this conversation, it's bordering on sad.

For Florida... hmmm... If Harvin was 100% healthy he was probably the best to ever play his "position".
Harvin was an absolute freak at Florida, and a perfect fit for Meyer's offense.
The guy was pretty much the go-to offensive playmaker for two NC teams. Pretty incredible.

They don't call us DBU for nothin'.
Anything else? Or are you going to try and convince me that you affirming my comment by calling LSU DBU, was not in fact confirmation of said comment?
Like I said, it's bordering on sad at this point.

That's not me making the claim, genius. You were asking me a question about a claim that I never made in the first place, to which I made a tongue-in-cheek response (what did you say about sarcasm earlier?)
Sad was like 3 pages ago for you, pal. But keep trying because now it's just funny.

Tyrann Mathieu? Absolutely.
Peterson is a 'generational' talent.. he could have literally been a top-10 pick at RB, FS/SS, WR, CB, and probably even linebacker. He's probably the best pure athlete of my generation.

The whole point of this thread was to point out the fact that this specific phrase is thrown around too lightly.

Who has been your team's "once in a generation talent"?
These two and Casanova are the best DBs in LSU history. So, yes. He fits the bill. Had he had a decent head on his shoulders, he would've finished his career as the best player in LSU history.
He may not have won the Heisman, but that doesn't matter. Ingram is not Bama's best player. He's not even in the discussion on this thread.
If you can go back 100 years and pick out the 4 most sensational athletes, they are all "once in a generation." Yes, even if they were all from the past 5 years at the same position.
Why does Mathieu strike a nerve SO badly with Bama fans? It burns you up that he is successful.

It's very possible that we never see anyone do the things, at LSU, that mathieu did, ever again. I'd call that generational.

How invisible was Mathieu in the two Alabama games?
ESPN.com wrote four separate stories after the first game, and his name didn't appear in any of them. In three general stories from the championship game on that website, he got two mentions. The first: "Celebrated cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was beaten on a couple of passes." The second: "There was no game-changing play from the Honey Badger."
LSU will miss Mathieu at some point this season. He may have been a so-so cover corner, but he was too good overall and rose to meet too many moments to expect otherwise. His punt returns for touchdowns woke the Tigers from their slumber in their second biggest regular-season and postseason games, against Arkansas and Georgia.
Losing him may cost LSU in another game, but not having him in uniform Nov. 3 in Baton Rouge for the game that's likely to decide the SEC West and give the winner the inside track to the SEC and BCS Championship Games should be no excuse for two reasons.
The game should be won in the trenches, where Mathieu seldom ventured, and the Tigers have about 2 1 / 2 months to adjust to playing without him. Which they pretty much did in the two Alabama games last season, though he did contribute five tackles in Tuscaloosa and six in New Orleans.
LSU knows it can beat Alabama without Mathieu, just as Alabama knows it can beat LSU with or without him. The only thing missing the next time will be McCarron throwing at him and over him.
