Tennessee, who won the SEC in 1967, and Georgia ,who would win the SEC in 1968, tied 17-17. Tennessee scored on a 21 yard Bubba Wyche to Gary Kreis pass on the last play of the game to cut it to 17-15. Wyche completed a pass to Ken DeLong for the two point conversion and the tie.

Tennessee's surface was actually Tartan Turf made by 3M and not Monsanto's Astro-Turf that would eventually be more widely used.

Any Agricultural school south of Mason Dixon using turf should have its land grant status revoked

I, too, remember an ancient time when Tennessee and Georgia could win the SEC.

Back to back passes by UT to tie the game? I thought passing did 3 things and two of them were BAD!

ETA: and narry a one of those 3 would make the team today

Can someone explain the reason turf became a thing?

I think this is the game where Tennessee didn't tell uga that they had that turf and uga was prepared. Then the last second td they scored hit on the ground and was incomplete but the officials cheated uga out the game

The Houston Astrodome opened in 1965 and thus artificial playing surfaces were born.

It hurts me to look at that pic. That shite was awful. The modern synthetic stuff will hurt you too.
