Love it.

What was the deal a few years ago where Ole Miss painted the Powder Helmets a dark blue and didn’t have funding to repaint them...?! Am I in the ball park with that story? Anyway, that fricked up some of their uniform combos to me. Keep the Powder Blues

Please tell me the pants aren't gonna be powder blue too? Not sure how I feel about the jerseys regardless and don't get the infatuation Ole Miss has with powder blur when it isn't one of their school colors.

Light blue is hideous. OM looks good in the darker blue and red.

Old school color has always been powder blue, but the modern (and nike) colors have been dark blue. School has slowly been going back to their historic helmet color of powder blue, it's just been a slow process over 5 ish years. Led to a lot of mix and match, but we've worn 3-4 helmet colors in recent years (usually changing colors every week).

Yale Blue (the school color) and the powder blue they've been wearing lately aren't the same thing

No, but we've worn both. Powder blue helmet is what we wore through the 60s-80s though.

Right, but what's the deal with your baseball team, basketball team, fan apparel, etc going wild with powder blue the past few years?

The uniform I see in the link doesn't seem like the right color.

It sells. It looks good. The fans like it. It can be worn by a multitude of mascots (most important criteria)

Here’s the story you’re thinking of. Love this backstory, didn’t think a lot of people knew about this....

quote:

Powder Blue became a footnote for Ole Miss uniform history actually by mistake. As the story goes, Legendary Rebel coach Johnny Vaught ordered helmets for the Rebel’s season (late 50’s) and they arrived in a color best described as a robin’s egg. As there were games to play and very few options to change them, the Rebels played with the powder blue helmets. And they continued with the powder blue helmets until 1969 and the NCAA centennial design, which was a return to the darker navy helmet.

This seems way more complicated to you than it should be. It’s just marketing. If Powder Blue resonates with the fan base, potential recruits and casual observers (I.e. it’s marketable), then the school is obviously going to lean into it.
