Be honest. How excruciating was it to lose Lane and Weiss to us then watching Golding get promoted?
Genuinely can’t think of a more horrific turn of events. Would you say it was the worst day of your lives?

It was time for Lane to move on but I would have preferred to keep Weiss. I wasn't thrilled initially about Golding, considering the heartburn from Matt Luke. I quickly realized though that he is nothing like Luke so I think he will do fine. I'll form a better opinion after I see how this season goes.

Personally, I was ready for Lane to be gone after the Auburn situation in 2022. He should have been terminated for cause at that time. LSU fans will see this as well. When his name is mentioned with a job opening, he will not "put it to bed" so to speak. He'll let it become a distraction to his team like it did in 2022. Thankfully, it did not become an issue last season due to having good leadership in place.
I've said in the past, when Lane decided to move on, they should promote Pete to keep things going....so, we'll see how it goes.
One thing is for sure, Lane will win some games for LSU.....he'll also make everything about himself and by the time he leaves Baton Rouge, LSU fans will be glad to see him go. I have a feeling that once Bama or Texas open up, You guys will see the true Lane.

I'll openly admit I really didn't want to lose him and Weiss. It sucked when it happened, Kiffin is the best head coach we have had in my lifetime and watching him walk to a rival wasn't very fun. As the process went on, it was very clear that Kiffin wanted to leave, but that he also wanted to stay through the end of the season. Basically, he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I disagreed with that and am glad that we decided to let him walk rather than keep him around amidst all the rumors that he was leaving.
Obviously, Pete Golding isn't Kiffin, and likely never will be. Simultaneously, Pete Golding isn't Matt Luke - Pete Golding was a good DC for us and does a great job recruiting, while Matt Luke was a below average OL coach that was clearly in over his head from the beginning. I'm hoping that Pete can lean on his experience under Kiffin and Saban to keep the ship upright for a few seasons.
I don't expect Pete to be a long-term answer, but I'll give him credit where credit is due; his first recruiting class has been pretty good so far. Not a top 10 class or anything, but he might put together the best high school class we've had since the Freeze era. Can't complain about that.

Thanks for the honest answer. In reality, I think most Ole Miss fans expected him to be around probably 3 years at the most. He was able to rehab his image("I needed Oxford alot more than Oxford needed me") but it was obviously only for show. Openly using his family to shop jobs while in the middle of a playoff run and trolling his own fanbase were just a few of the "true Lane" examples....good riddance

Because that's how I really feel. I wanted Sumrall, TBH. I think he is going to be fantastic at Florida.
I fully admit that I did not really know much about Golding other than defense when he was named HC. I thought we had moved past coordinator hires as head coach, so I was not initially thrilled. ...but the way he ran the program during the playoffs and the way he was able to nail down recruiting in the midst of all of that while also dealing with hiring a new staff and keeping the temp staff on, he navigated that better than I thought was possible. And his interviews show that he has a good understanding of the game, unlike Matt Luke. So I am cautiously optimistic, however, I also realize that he hasn't coached a full season and that will paint the picture more accurately.

If Alabama or Ohio State or the Dallas Cowboys opens up tomorrow he’s probably gone. That’s just the reality with Lane. I’m not going to be mad. I’m already mentally prepared for it. I would advise the local Reb fans to let it go too.

I'd say maybe only Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, maybe Oregon would be a threat IMO.
Alabama can't give him anything LSU can't, but I think he just likes the history of the place.
