Really seems like the only Week 1/Week 2 matchup that could be a potential upset.

It's going to be hot. Their rushing defense had some moments of weakness last year (see the first game against UCF and Cincinnati) so I hope we can play keep away and take the air out of the ball.

They return a very experienced QB who is a gritty and talented player.

They also have had solid special teams under Fritz.

We are fortunate they start off with South Alabama and we play Mercer.

I expect to win but I am not sure we will blow them out.

It's going to be the first true test of the season, so I expect our guys going ready to play. I think so long as we don't find ourselves in an early hole we should be able to wear them down by the end of the 3rd early 4th w/ Judkins and Co.

Nah, not much chance of the Rebearsharks upsetting the Wave.

Didn't they beat USC last year? And if so, how much returning production? How many starters are coming back? I'm telling you for ole miss, Spencer Sanders didn't transfer to sit the bench. He's gonna start. This kid is a handful. He always gave Texas fits at oky state. Guy is a gamer. Has wheels too. I expect ole miss to win on the back of sanders. Kid just has it. Now him being in a new offense might lead me to believe that he might struggle, but I highly doubt it cause lane is a QB whisperer. He makes everybody look good. Now that lane has gotten out of the I just wanna troll everyone stage and actually settles down and becomes an actual football coach, he's gonna be pretty dangerous. That's if he can get his defense sorted out. If that happens ole miss might be a dark house candidate to win the west.

I think 4 returning starters on their OL too. But at least Spears is gone. This should be a good game, looking forward to watching.

They lost their RB Tyjae Spears who was an absolute beast. QB is returning who was tough as nails against USC.

They lost an elite RB to the NFL, but the offensive line is supposed to be the best in their conference, so there may not be much drop off there. Pratt is not a scrambler, but he is mobile and wily. They did lose pretty much every pass catcher from 2022, so they may struggle there.

Defensively, they replace pretty much all of their LBs and safeties, but they do have some NFL-caliber safeties. Their defensive line was not ferocious last year but they return most of their players there.

We lost our leading rusher (Spears) and best defender (D Williams). History is not on our side. Our last win over Ole Miss was in 1988. I do expect Tulane to be very competitive, but I'm afraid Lane's offense will be too much.

They did in a fantastic game and return a decent amount. You can see how I break that down in my other post in this thread.

Regarding Sanders, the only thing I've heard from camp is Dart has progressed and it is clearly his job and team now.

At times last year, your pass rush was non-existent. You also lost your best LBers. Who should we BOLO for in 2023 to see if y'all can rectify your front seven problems?

This is not to say you had a bad front seven last year. They made some incredible stops at key moments.

I'll have to agree to disagree my friend. Would you transfer to a school if you were the starting QB in an offense that was pretty lethal, to another school if you didn't know you were gonna ride the pine? I'd bet Lane told sanders it was his job if he transferred to ole miss. Now not saying Jaxxon dart isn't a good QB, I'm saying to a senior, that you know will be your last year playing football, that you would take a chance that you might not even play? I'm not taking that chance. If it was me, I'd have to know that I was the starter. That would be the only way to get me to transfer from my school that I was the starter at.

It is my understanding we took Sanders to keep him from transferring to Auburn to play under Freeze. But that's all message board speculation.

Feel pretty good. Best depth I can remember OM ever having, which should help for early season game in South Louisiana.

Oh is that it? Well I didn't know about that one. I haven't heard it. Either way, sanders is gonna light people up. Especially in lanes offense. But yea I would've loved to see sanders in a freeze offense too. He fits either offense very well. Kid with a great arm, has very good feet. His mechanics are good but could use some work, and he can get out of trouble if there's pressure in his face. I always hated playing oky state, because of him. You knew it was gonna be a war.

Yes, SC was a joke of a team last year. Pathetic play from their QB in particular.

We beat Kansas State on the road (Big 12 champion) and a healthy Caleb Williams. USC won 11 games.
