Alters should not have thread starting ability. Or posting ability for that matter.

Correct. Should've listened to his mother and went to State. They were running the wishbone with the inventor of the offense, Emory Bellard, as the Head Coach. He would've been close to home, which would've been huge for him, and been a beast. However, he listened to his uncle and Ken Fairly who were in it for the money and not for Marcus. OU offered the best deal and they took it.
Play for the guy who developed the wishbone? or play for the guy who perfected it. Hmmm....
And Fairley was the guy who convinced Dupree to leave OU, not go to OU, dingus.
Dupree was at OU during a transition period, kind of a low spot during Switzer's tenure and they rode him hard his freshman year. He got dinged up pretty good and I think that played into his decision to go home.
Speaking of Fairley, what they don't mention in the 30for30: in 1987, Marcus sued Fairley for $3 million because Fairley was "in charge of" an insurance settlement of $4.5 million for Marcus's early retirement from football due to injuries. And he squandered it on who knows what. Marcus got $500k from the settlement.
I noticed in the 30for30 they give Fairley a chance to make it look like he wasn't necessarily a bad guy, which was total bullshite

That was why I asked. ESPN has a tendency towards a mix of truth and fairy tale. What was the outcome of that lawsuit?
I know Marcus drove a truck for a living for a long time.

In 2017, Fairley went to prison on fraud convictions but I don't think that had anything to do with Dupree's insurance settlement

He was at "close to home" Southern Miss for a short while. How did that turnout?
The Greatest That Never Was...this could be true.

No shite. Marcus was wanting out of OU and Fairley "negotiated" a new deal with USM. Marcus wanted the hell out of OU, and Fairley wanted the money train to keep rolling.Again, because of Marcus and his personality the best choice would've been State. I know all about Dupree. I only live about 30 miles from Philadelphia, and our school played him, but I was in upper elementary at the time.

It was all about money at that point. Marcus was being used, as I stated, By his uncle and Fairley. They talked him into going pro with the NO Breakers of the USFL, then he got hurt, and it was over. Momma wanted him an hour up the road at State. She had Marcus' best interest at heart. She tried to keep those guys away from Marcus to no avail. Those other bastards were all about getting money off of him.

I stood next to him in line with my boys to get into the 2013 Sugar Bowl against Bama. It was both a little cool and sad at the same time. Not a single person knew who he was other than me. I remember after we got in and found our seats trying to explain to my kids what he could have been for Oklahoma. Just a really odd experience.

Marcus Dupree or Joe Don Looney?

I used to see him hanging out behind his
girlfriend’s apartment on the avenues in Hattiesburg.
If I remember correctly he drove a gray
Silverado with a wood steering wheel.
Never spoke, just listened to his music.
