#2 behind Saban. Gus is an offensive genius. He is the Sean Payton of college football.
Great comparison.
Very similar in terms of acumen, temperament and offensive arrogance / aggressiveness.

No way. Les came in and won with Saban's players. Gus came in and won with Chizik's.

Wait, did you take that seriously? Gus is very good, but I was just making fun of people who are a bit too reactionary. It is possible he'll actually end up ranked there, but nobody in their right mind can rank him above any of the 3 I listed right now.

That's silly & just a tad disingenuous.
It is completely disingenuous.
If Sumlin catches a couple of breaks last year (a la Auburn 2013) they're playing Georgia in Atlanta to go to the BCSNC. And any of UGA, A&M or Bama beats ND. And we're characterizing Sumlin as a demigod like this year's Malzahn.

Malzahn has been in CFB for 8 years now. In that time he's won 3 SECW titles, 2 SEC titles, 1 Sun Belt Title, and 2 CUSA west titles.
His teams played in conference championship games in 6 out of 8 years. If you don't think that's a successful coach, then you don't know shite about football.

We (A&M) folks realize that; but we haven't trumpeted it daily, like some other fan bases have about their guys.
Truly--Sumlin is a couple of scores from the national championship game.
And he's being rated as ninth.
I'll just continue to observe.

Right now in the Rant, aTm is disregarded, yesterdays news, much like we were after our disastrous first season. No doubt aTm will be back.

Plus a BCS National title.

Gus' offense is tailored to the players he has at that time.
Exactly. Plus, his in game (and in play) adjustments are superior to anyone's.

Love how you all just say that Malzahn was the head coach in 2010.

I am honestly surprised an LSU fan hasn't blown a fuse over this statement yet.

1. Gus
2. General Neyland
3. Bear
4. Saban
I actually think Gus and Gen. Neyland would've gotten along as both were strategy oriented. The General would definitely be smiling on Auburn's special teams play this year (it was a huge emphasis of his in a time no one emphasized much) and Gus' ability to simplify an offense down to a bare bones configuration and run it down your throat.
He would be scowling at Gus tho for his lack of defense or maybe just shaking his head and saying 'here, lemme show you something... I can't bear to watch a game without defense."
But on to my rankings...
1. Spurrier
2. Gus ? (jury still out but I like him here)
3. Miles ? (he's underrated because he's good for one royal screw up or just plain weird happening a game)
4. Saban***
***Saban is ranked below them only because I'm thinking in terms of innovation in coaching and in-game coaching. Saban doesn't do less with more but does exactly as he should with the fantastic talent he recruits and runs a pretty conservative game. Now if I rank coaches based on planning ahead for an opponent Saban is the hands-down number 1 coach. Give him weeks to work on an opponent and it's over. But Saban doesn't like unforeseen events which is one of the reasons why he's beatable during the regular season. If something goes wacky he's not as good at in-game adjustments as other coaches.
Saban though should really be in a league of his own. And if we're going by W-Ls rather than the Xs and Os of coaching he's also hands down #1.
