A guy like slim reaper is going to beat your secondary most of the time. Your only hope is to get a lot of pressure on the QB and hope he makes bad throws. No one really had any success with that either.quote:
The Outland and Remington winner made sure of that.
And throw in the Joe Moore award for the rest of the line.

quote:that happened once I think, on that td pass. The lb was responsible for the underneath zone, and the safety went towards waddlee and metchie. Smith and jones were both reading the safety, the second he turned his hips Smith broke the other direction and jones had the ball out. Was a great play design, and both Smith and jones read it perfectly in sync. There was no way for the safety to be right and no way for a lb to keep up with Smith
Covering him with a slow linebacker was a bold strategy.

Ohio State had game plan to stop Smitty.
Im not sure what year of film OSU broke down, but constantly running a 4-4 with a LB on Smiddy was impressive.

Even a fast LB would have been the same...as soon as he was level with that poor LB ...Smitty looked like he was out running a route during warm ups

Letting him be wide open all game was a really poor game plan

The linebacker was just covering his zone. Smitty ran through his zone and into the deep safeties zone. Problem was the deep safety had ran himself out of the play trying to get to the other side of the field to cover two other receivers (Waddle, ?) who already had defenders on them.

they ran the 4-4 because none of those motherfrickers wanted to cover him. 4-4 = plausible deniability for all involved.

Shame he couldn’t break Ja’Marr Chase’s national championship record for receiving yards.

Another jeaLSU post about Bama:

I'm not a big schematics guy but even I was questioning why they weren't trying anything different, especially with the linebackers in coverage. It didn't make sense that it was their plan from the start
Their secondary is bad. Even if they played a bunch of nickel we'd have torched them through the air, but we would have also gotten 5+ yards on the ground whenever we wanted it. I think their plan, at least in theory, was to keep everything in front of them until the field compressed enough to take away our big advantage on the back end. But Sark took Coombs to school in the redzone, so their plan backfired spectacularly and just resulted in us scoring a frick ton of points while also totally dominating ToP.

Didn't he quit playing football before the season started ?

OSU LB and DBs were the worst I have seen them have in some time .They were good players ...just not the elite NFL players they usually have .They could have tried anything they wanted ...BAMA was to stacked on offense . Like I said b4 , only chance they had to slow them down was get fast heat on Jones and with Togiai and T Smith out that went out the window .

Imagine what Chase or JJ would have done against a LB.
