neaux*,

The Bama DL does it's job so well it allows the LB corps to be as dominant as it is. Unless, you are being purposefully obtuse, it's not that difficult to grasp.

And in Maximus' original post, he states himself that the LSU DL got almost no pressure on AJ. So is stating that the Bama DL is equal to LSU's DL really that much of a stretch?

*Since the use of the "-eaux" spelling for the long "O" sound apparently makes all points more valid, I thought I'd give it a shot.

CONTINUED FROM OP...

- Kenny Bell got away with a clear block in the back at the end of Maze's long WR screen catch and run

-Smelley's open field blocking is the key to many of Bama's plays. He takes a play from the Barret Jones grab the jersey sleeves and drive your feet book. On the 24 yard run by Trent he form tackled Brandon Taylor and even looked up towards the ref at the end as if to say please don't call this.

-Ego Ferguson and Josh Downs were at DT on Trent's 24 yard run. He needs to capitalize on when the 4th and 5th DTs are on the field like that in the title game.

-Verne and Gary's open cheerleading for Trent, I think gave viewers a false impression of Trent having a really good game or always being on the verge of breaking something.

-Maze's ankle looked great on the WR screen catch and run but miraculously less than a minute later he can barely walk after he misjudges the Wing punt.

-Tahj Jones got double teamed on Trent's 9 yard run. He looked like a cornerback taking on those blocks.

-Maze again has no heart. Runs straight out of bounds 2 yards short of the first down when he sees Eric Reid running towards him.

-Still pretty much nothing out of Trent on the ground. His muscles look cool though.

-Trent tackled twice in a row by one DB for a big loss after I type that last comment.

-Screen to Trent works well but he had lost so many yards on the two previous runs that he is still a couple yards short of the first down.

-Swagga flopping his self into a concussion still makes me chuckle

-JJ completes a first down pass to Clement out of his own endzone then has the field part like the red sea when he scrambles and everyone from Bama is chasing WRs in man.

-I forgot to mention one of the times Bama got pressure in the first half was T Blob missing his assigment at center. Lonergan > T Blob

-Also, from the 1st half. The play where Nick pitched that shite fit when GayJ threw the quick overthrown fade route and Gary said the WR on the other side was "wide open for a TD" was not as clear as Gary and Nick's tantrum made it seem. White did come open because of a pick but he was running at the 20 yard line with his back to the QB the entire time, Reid spotted him and was coming from the middle of the field at about 10 yard line. Bama probably could have gotten a completetion, but I doubt it would have been a TD and AJ still would have had to make a long throw across the field which seems to take him about 5 seconds to get the ball there.

-LSU was actually having success on offense on their last drive of the 4th until Miles went super conservative and called 3 Ware up the gut runs in a row.

-Another WR screen with 0:50 left in the game. Another clear Smelley hold in the open field not called Maze still only gets about 2 yards so his ankle must have started hurting again mid-play.

-Trent up the middle on the last play of regulation with no gain or effort. I'm thinking of a Q word here.

-Bugeyeed ref needs to sign up for toast masters or something. So nervous giving out the OT rules to millions at home.

-Bama stays with the screen/passing to Trent cuteness in OT despite LSU clearly having shown they've caught on to it in the 2nd half.

-Another Bama substitution penalty. A clear sign the game is too big for these guys. I'm sure being in NOLA on the big stage will ease this though.

-GayJ layed down into the last sack in OT. Untouched. Heart of a lion. Throwing that ball away gives the crap PK probably 5 yards of breathing room.

-Cade Foster lol

-I think a big takeaway from this is tight butthole Saban will tighten up that butthole about 10 extra notches on Jan. 9th seeing as how the trick play cost them immediately following Trent's lone big run of the game and how throwing the ball on 1st and 2nd down in OT cost them.

- Ford again makes the Bama LBs look like they are the Acme Piano Moving Company. #35 in particular might as well have stayed in the locker room at halftime with how slow he played in the 2nd half and OT.

THE END

-Trent really did next to nothing besides being the beneficiary of 2 blown assignments on swing passes. The only two decent runs he has had so far were due to Karnell Hatcher being at MLB. Hatcher is so fricking terrible

I noticed this

LSU player basically just let him run free

They'll have that fixed in the BCSNCG

yeah on one of the plays Trent is lined up as the slot WR pre-snap and nobody at all covers him. Francois was the LB to that side, so I'd assume it was his man.

This was the 2nd offensive play of the game. The first play of the game Trent got about 17 yards on a run where Barrett Jones held the shite out of the DE to give him the corner.

The 2nd blown coverage was in the 2nd quarter for 39 yards. Then he has the 24 yard run in the early 4th quarter against the backup DL and thats basically all he did all game.

I read the entire OP. It was actually informative and amusing at the same time, not often seen on the Rant. I'm assuming Wing's punt didn't actually strike the wire as Maze alleged?

No it didn't. Just like TM7 didn't clothesline Swagga. Moral victories are acceptable if you are a Bama fan. Whatever makes them feel better...

But we are insecure...

A lot of the Gumpies on the SECr are cool. There are a few idiots mixed on. I'm sure it doesn't take long to figure out who they are.

Keep doing what you do Max.

You pointed out some issues with LSU too. I was there that game and one thing I saw that you pointed out, our WR didn't block very well, especially in the first half.

That's because half of your OP is a flame. And half of your follow up post is a flame. You should have left "unbiased" out of this thread.

Well it's been at least a month since I watched it. And me claiming to be unbiased when it comes to LSU / UA is a lie.

1. LSU won.

2. I think LSU won in spite of their qbs.

3. LSU's D played lights out that night.

4. UA should not have attempted some of those field goals. Not because Foster doesn't have the leg, but because he's inconsistent. Which is not all his fault. When one fg kicker kicks 75% of the field goals, and all of the xps, and you bring in a different kicker for the long ones only, you have to know he's gonna be rusty. I wouldn't have tried that 49 yarder. And the 53 yarder in OT was the only real option to get points on that OT drive.

5. If Bama doesn't defend the option better it might be a long night in the dome.

6. I bitched about the TM / Dre play probably more than I should have. I don't think TM tried to intentionally hurt him.

7. Richardson played well. Hope he does the same again.

8. I was pleased with AJ too. Just wish he hadn't took that sack in OT.

9. If Bama's gonna win they need to get an early lead. Scoring 3 pts a half is a surefire way to lose.

10. Reid probably won that game for LSU. If Maze had thrown it a foot further that's probably a td.

11. Sideline to sideline is not a strength of Bama's lbs. Hopefully Moseley will play a lot in the next game.

12. Both secondaries played well. Only a couple of blown coverages.

13. LSU's dline is better than I thought. Not just the starters, but the backups as well.

14. Bama needs to control the ball, which is a given. Facing four or five fresh backs in the 2nd half will be a tough task.

I've seen many bama fans say that given time you can properly prepare for and shut down/limit the option. Very true, however in doing so you are taking a man from your secondary out of coverage. We will have Faulk sealing the edge to prevent the DE from reaching the back field, Hightower or upshaw likely will play the pitch man(JJ), and Clement will take on the other LB. so a DB, likely a safety, must help to prevent the runner from reaching the edge. the other LB's will be lined up out of the play. LSU usually runs the option to the left with Ford, Blue, and Hilliard.

Bama double teamed Randle all game, so taking someone like Barron, your nickel back(more likely if you are in cover 2), or Lester and moving them up to attack the edge to defend the pitch would likely leave Randle or Obj in man to man coverage.  In cover 2 its likely a CB. In cover 3 its likely a S, and in Quarters its probably the extra lb. So in reality it's a pick your poison since you can not do both. If Hightower does not reach the JJ in time all Randle needs is a second to break down the man coverage and get open. JJ will have to show poise in the pocket and accuracy on the throw, but he's done it before in his carreer in big games.

So my question is: Do you believe being in man coverage on Randle is better than allowing LSU to gain a few yards on the edge?

Both defenses have kept big plays to a minimum all year, but IMO you take your lumps on the option attack instead of leaving JJ with a seemingly wide open Randle once he beats the man coverage.

What say you, bama fans?
