Q: How many times did Coach Goodwin call or text message you in the week and the weekend before signing day?
A: Oh my goodness. Like the week of signing day I had to cut my phone off. Coach Goodwin was blowing my phone up everyday. All day long, blowing my phone up about this, this and this. 'Where you at? I need to talk to you.' Coach Goodwin was blowing my phone up. And when he found out that I was going to Alabama, it was like he started sending me crazier messages, talking about, 'I'm going to get in trouble.' I was like, 'Coach Goodwin, nobody has paid me to do anything.' He told my dad it's a shame he forced me to go. I said my dad can't force me to do nothing. Peaches is my guardian. And for that matter, he has limits on what he has say so over. And college is not a say-so any parent has over his son or daughter. That's a decision they have to make.
I haven't been following this story much but Goodwin sounds a bit crazy if this stuff is accurate
BTW I think other posters may have misinterprested on one point... sounds like Goodwin wasn't worried about getting himself in trouble... he was warning calloway that he might get in trouble
why would that be tho? given the environment you would think it related to being paid and not going somewhere but it is just not clearly spelled out
These stories get pretty distorted. You can get a partisan writer interviewing a high school kid with a moderate grasp of the english language... and then people pore through his every comment as if it were reported in context and calculated

His reputation is already taking a hit and I'm sure many are already looking at him in a different light.
I have no skin in this game but after I read that article I would say that Goodwin doesnt come off as a caring coach that is happy that the players he developed get a schloraship to big time school.
Is is common that a HS coach STOPS talking to his HS kids after NSD??

Again, what does it matter if it's all legit? Emory Blake drives a hummer. Why does no one question him? Because he can prove where he got it from with no problem. Why can't Brent do this? Everyone else does.
Every athlete at Alabama has to prove ownership, and where it was purchased, for any car they drive and register there.
Once Brent has a car, he'll have to do the same once he gets to school there.

I think we can all say this is over. Not that it ever was anything to start with.
Now we can refocus on the Dirtiest Village on the Plains, home of the War Felons, where they cheat like hell.
Doubt me? Just ask Eric Ramsey..he got it on tape.
Terry Bowden has a Black Book.
Four former Aub players say they cheat...not one..FOUR.
They all jump on for the ride with an Auburn hack with a blog making accusations with info gotten from one of his own posters and a HS coach that graduated from there.
Vengeance will be swift and the REC black helicopters are flying as we speak.

quote:thats true but people would probably still harass him about it
Again, why is he the only recruit that can't have parents buy him a car? If they have the money, go buy it and prove where you got the money from just like everyone else does.

I wonder how many prospective recruits out there right now are questioning whether or not they should even consider AU as their school of choice.
Calloway is still in HS and he and his family are being thrown under the bus by JLee, and an AU grad Goodwin all because he decided to honor his original decision to play for UA.
He was committed to UA for over a year - he flopped to AU for a few weeks before NSD and in the end he stayed with his original decision.....
Now, he's got his HS Coach that coached him for 4 yrs that won't even speak to him anymore. And, he doing an interview with people about his recruitment to UA, when his own family member played at UA (Freddie Roach)....
It's gotta make a young kid think twice before making any public decisions about signing on with AU.

Hopefully more of them just say the hell with it and leave the crazy state of Alabama

I know one thing. The barn has got a damn good PR office. All the attention was on the Auburn Bandito 4 as well as the HBO 4, not counting the Cam stuff.
Then, Bam, tree story, and now an AU writer comes out with allegations about an Alabama recruit.
Deny, deny, and deflect..... the Auburn way.

I agree Jatebe. They do one hell of a job of spinning and deflecting.
Their time will come.
Their time will come.

The tree story wouldn't have come out if a certain Bama fan had not bragged about it a fricking radio show.

Not his family, this is throwing Peaches under the bus. This won't cause any problems, Alabama and other programs used the threat of Cam Newton gate that Auburn was just waiting to go on probation and that didn't hurt recruiting. This staff is aggressive in recruiting and has early playing time to sell.

After this article, the NCAA will have to now investigate the Lolly rumor.

You don't consider Peaches to be Calloway's family? He adopted the kid four years ago. And, Jeff Lee accused Peaches of accepting money to pay off his mortgage because Peaches was in finiancial trouble. Lee went on to say UA offered Peaches $1,200/month.
Lee made some pretty hefty accusations about Calloway's father (adoptive father, but still his father of over 4 years.)
So where are the mortgage payments? That can easily be verified.
Ya'll do have a shite load of early playing time to offer any Tom, Dick or Brent though.
