You are trying to rewrite history.
There are less than 100 bammers that see updyke in a negative light. He is on the mount rushmore of your all time fanbase.
He HAD to call and tell the world. Why? Because he knew he would be received with open arms and cheers from his peers.
Harvey is the epitome of an alabama fan.
Everything about his life, his disabilities, his weight, his lack of intellect, his marriage, and his naming of his kids just "fits" in tuscaloosa.

I don't think he ever quite said how he got away with it. The trees were located at a pretty heavily traveled intersection, so he would have had to have dressed up like a maintenance worker (or gone out there in the middle of the night) to avoid drawing attention to himself.

I beg to differ here. You can go back to the thread on this very website when the news broke, the thread that got be banned for about half a year when I lost my shite, and you will find the majority of bama fans either applauded it or thought it was hilarious. Very few called out Harvey's actions as be despicable, deplorable, or similar. I also went to bamamag or tidesports or some other bama message board and the response was overwhelmingly supportive of Updyke's actions the day it happened. Which consequently contributed to me losing my shite that day.
