Norvell is a damn good coach. I know he’s not the splashy name people expect, but Norvell would not be some bum hire.

Maybe it is just me (I am in fact an idiot), but the field of available coaches seems to be particularly weak right now.

He wouldn't be, but in all likelihood he'd be a placeholder for the next guy.
Bill Curry went 10-2 and won the SEC in his final year of three. All were winning seasons and each year improved. Never could beat Dye but still, they offered a new contract but didn't give him 100 percent authority to hire his own assistants. That was nearly a decade after the Bear and he did much better than Ray Perkins who preceded him.
Can you imagine the hell this next guy is gonna face?

I think a lot of good names have unique reasons they would turn it down. And a lot of guys would take the Bama job, but even this list is fairly liberal in terms of who Bama would actually offer
