No no. You can't use LLLLLSU's excuse from 2019 vs Vandy against them.

I think this is right to a point, but we don’t need to exaggerate how well they were playing at the end. The easily could have lost to OM, and they got VERY lucky not to lose to UF.
Agree - they were a Top 20-25 team at the end of the year. That team probably goes 8-4 in a normal regular season.
But it's reasonable to look at it and say you return most of a Top 20/25 team and feel like they can possibly be a Top 10 team if there is across the board improvement.
JMHO

Very similar to what you and I were saying about A&M coming into 2020.

Ya, those are HUGE expectations.

Yep - and I think LSU has a bit higher ceiling because their QB is less of a known (plus the skill guys) and could have a higher ceiling. On the flip side, the LSU defense is a much bigger unknown than the A&M defense was.
That was always the thing that we both (and others, including A&M fans) said about A&M. They should be better, even quite better, but the QB situation (along with skill guys at WR) really lowered their ceiling.

I agree. On the other hand, they have Ed. They have a new coaching staff. There are signs of discord in the ranks. Things could turn south. What they have going for them, of course, is an abundant of talent on the roster.

No you couldn’t.
UF could have easily beat us, but we weren’t lucky to win. We won every statistical category. As we did with Vandy in game 1, but our TOs kept them in the game.
And you still could've lost to those teams just as easily as LSU could've to UF and Ole Miss.

Absolutely - LSU probably has the widest range of reasonable outcomes for 2021 of anyone in the conference. They could get it all back together, play to their potential and be a 10-2 team battling for the division. They could also prove that the issues last year were in fact deep, go 7-5 and get O fired.
I'm not sure either would shock me, to be honest. My gut feeling leans more towards them improving and being good but not great, but them being good on offense and still below average on defense and going 8-4 would not shock me.

i know. it's my observation sog is actually one of the better personalities on the board but on that particular thread he went off the rails a bit. happens to all of us i guess

Absolutely it does - sometimes we get deep into it and it's almost impossible to find our way out. I'd argue that the off the rails wasn't just me (or even me), but agree to disagree

Aggies take a step back down to normalcy this year

quote:the most obvious unknown are the coordinators. the talent is clearly there on both sides of the ball. lsu is wicked talented at the skill positions on offense. solid line returns on both sides. the dbacks showed improvement but you still have stingley/ricks which might be the best combo in the league. the only question mark is lb but o seems to be on a mission there.

their QB is less of a known

Yea, that was really my point - not that LSU QBs were unknown from a "can they play" standpoint, but unknown as in we aren't sure how good they can be. The room for growth/ceiling is much higher.
Like you said - we knew exactly what Mond was gonna be, and because of that, we knew A&M would have limitations.

On the other hand, they have Ed
one thing is for sure, he doesn't seem to stuck on bbq buddies. he seems to really ask around and get feedback.
