Jesus, I hope we don’t have to go looking for an OC. Based on the Bama hire and this news, seems like slim pickings out there.

I never understood why people in the NFL love Byron Leftwich so much. Did he have some years he fielded an extremely dominant offense or something?

Do we really have to tell you about the built in advantages he has over most?

Because he seems to be extremely competent as a coach and has been there done that as a player.

He should be able to do well as a recruiter as well.

A month ago would you rather us hired Petrino or Leftwich?

Petrino has more skins on the wall but as we've seen that doesn't always mean anything.

Winning a super bowl, as a coordinator, before 40?

Pretty sure a guy named Nick Saban did it as a head coach with some success

I rather hire Petrino. I guess Leftwhich didn’t seem proven to me as an play designer/caller.

However, I want to Texans to take a chance on Jerrod Johnson, even tho he’s not proven. Im probably just biased in thinking he’ll succeed. It’s crazy he may be an OC in the near future. Had he never gotten injured vs Georgia, he could of been a great player imo.

Saban was a college guy who worked a bit in the NFL, not vice versa.

It turned out that the offense he originally got a lot of credit for was mostly Bruce Arians.

That he earned the respect of the football world for the rest of his life when he was still in college:

You don't have as long of a career as a clipboard holder in the NFL as Leftwich did without having a good head for the game. Leftwich was big and gritty, but he was never very athletic. But he was a very smart QB. NFL coaches saw that and respected that enough that they started grooming him for coaching when he was still a player
