Again, comparing Kelly at Notre Dame to Freeman at Notre Dame. Nobody takes away Freeman's "ranked" wins over A&M, Louisville, or Navy because they finished season unranked. This is an instance of downplaying one of Kelly's wins after the fact. In the moment, it was a top 10 matchup, that he won. At LSU, no one ever goes back and says he won at #8 Mizzou because of how Mizzou finished season.

Again, comparing Freeman at Notre Dame to Kelly at Notre Dame since that was the premise of the original article.
Kelly never coached at Notre Dame with the 12 team playoff.
