You couldn't lose to a G5 like Freeman did last season.
You see, JayAg, most schools would want a coach that has a chance to win a big postseason game and give them a chance at a championship, even if they may get upset from time to time (could be against a G5 team). Even the greatest coach of all time lost to a G5 team when he coached a team that wore yellow and purple (LSU remembers that one well, and sadly Bama does too).
However, LSU was so embarrassed by that loss, they’d rather have a coach that doesn’t lose to G5 teams but has no chance of bringing home any hardware. It’s a trade they are willing to make to avoid being embarrassed like they were. I mean, who loses to a G5 team with the greatest coach of all time?!?! (I know, I know)

Question: what jobs would BK succeed at since he can’t win anything of note in CFB?
Apparently he’s friendly to young men and really willing to grind through the work day

Bama fans need to worry about their own coach at least winning a postseason game

Do we though? Our coach has won a semifinal playoff game in the last 2 seasons.
You know what they say about the greatest predictor of the future. That’s not such great news for LSU given their coach’s history. Last time we hired a coach who had won a playoff or NC game at a lessor program it worked out pretty well for us.

That was in the weak Pac12 though, you can't ride on Washington's success forever.

Texas played in the PAC 12? News to me. If I remember correctly, that same PAC 12 ended up outperforming most every other conference in the non-conference/bowl season.
Surely BK can beat mediocre pac 12 teams like 6-6 USC teams. Or how about from conferences even worse than the Pac12 like the ACC. How’s BK doing in his last 2 openers against the ACC since he has his 3rd one this season?

It's odd that folks try to pretend BK is a bad coach for losing to playoff teams that went a combined 28-0 and then try to pretend that DeBoer and Freeman are somehow better because they beat playoff teams with multiple losses.
It's a very low IQ talking point, if we're all being honest.

Yes, that was a really low IQ talking point. Texas would have been playing in the NC with a 13-1 record and had an elite DL that would have matched up really well with the Michigan cheaters. Unfortunately, they got out coached and lost. You really should quit if you ever get ahead, but you can’t quite seem to get ahead….much like the current coach of LSU who started 0-1 with a 29 point loss at home to the worst Alabama team in almost 2 decades.

I guess we can sum it all up with one question.
Do you believe 2024 Notre Dame/Freeman or 2023 Washington/DeBoer could have beaten 2020 Alabama/Saban?

For a smart guy, you aren’t into stats. You are into philosophy. Crazy.

Too out of your schooling. You should have paid for a proper Tulane education instead of directional school.

SidewalkTiger regularly makes arguments that actually blow holes in the bottom of his own ship. Many of the torpedoes he launches circle around and hit him. Take for example his main argument in this thread, that there were no great teams in 2024. He argues that because Marcus Freeman could not beat them all, even a team with 14 NFL draft picks, his loss was worse than Brian Kelly’s loss versus Alabama in the national championship game. His argument is that Kelly is a better coach than Freeman because he rates Kelly’s loss “better” than Freeman’s.
But if you look at it, that argument falls apart. In 2012, Notre Dame entered the national championship game undefeated and ranked #1 in all polls. He keeps claiming that Alabama was undefeated, but a quick look at their schedule shows they had one loss. They lost to Texas A&M and Johnny football that year. So Notre Dame entered the game undefeated while Alabama entered with one loss. Alabama was ranked #2. Notre Dame was ranked #1. Kelly lost to a lower ranked team. He didn’t just lose, he got blown out 42-14. During his halftime interview, down 28-0, Kelly joked that the only chance Notre Dame had to make a comeback in the second half was if Alabama failed to come out of the locker room.
Sidewalk says that was a better loss than Freeman’s 11 point loss against Ohio State.
Again, Sidewalk says he wants people to point out where he is wrong. Well, here is another example. Alabama was not undefeated nor where they ranked higher than Notre Dame when they beat the Irish out of Brian Kelly in the CFP championship game.
All time, Brian Kelly is 1-4 against Alabama by a combined point total of 101-188. In three of those games Kelly’s team scored 14 or less points 3 times. Only once did they score more than 30 points. By comparison, Alabama scored more than 30 in every game, and 42 points in three of them. Kelly’s one win was a one point overtime win, while his 4 defeats were all two touchdown or more beatings.
Sidewalk will be along shortly to explain how that proves how good Kelly is.

The argument isn't really that one is better than the other. The argument is that it's dumb to place Freeman above Kelly, based on what both have accomplished at Notre Dame, which is the same thing, a loss in the national championship game. Kelly brought Notre Dame back to relevance and sustained it for several years. Freeman has one season out of 3. Maybe he surpasses Kelly as the years go by, but claiming Freeman is a top 3-5 coach in the game is just insane, when he doesn't have the long track record.

Notre Dame was an approximate 10 point underdog heading into the game.

A loss is a loss, IMO, though I get that other people don't see it that way.

Now look at the teams they took over.
I’m no Brian Kelly apologist. When either of them wins a real championship, he can talk.

And they lost by 28.
Notre Dame was a -8.5 underdog to Ohio State. At least Freeman kept it respectable, losing by 11.
But let’s throw out hypotheticals comparing teams from different years. Let’s throw out what losses were better losses. Let’s just compare the two coaches. Last season was year three for each of them at their respective programs. It is hard to come up with a more apples to apples comparison than that. Sidewalk is using last season as definitive proof that Deboer is destined to fail at Alabama. So, one season is enough to make a definitive judgment. Which of these coaches would you say is the better coach?
Coach A: 11-1 regular season. Post season: Semi final, Orange bowl, Sugar bowl wins. Lost national championship game. Against top 20 teams 7-1. Final ranking: #2
Coach B: 8-4 regular season. Post season: Texas bowl win. Against top 20 teams 1-3. Final ranking: unranked.
Since we are judging coaches based on one year, it is pretty clear that Coach A is in a different stratosphere than Coach B. A is Marcus Freeman. B is Brian Kelly.
And another one of those torpedoes circles back around on Sidewalk.
