I wonder why some Alabama fans often talk about wins "on the field". Can you please explain to me what that means? I never hear LSU fans claiming wins "on the field", they just say, "wins".

If you beat a team, but were penalized by the NCAA for an infraction committed in some area of you program during the period that game was played in, then the NCAA could penalize you by making you forfeit any or all games you won during that period. Even though you won the game "on the field", you were penalized by having the win taken away.
