TN offense wasn’t a problem until Hooker went down.

Yep. This is why you don’t hire coaches like Heupel or Leach as your head coach in the SEC where we actually play defense and adapt and figure out how to shut that gimmicky shite down.

There's nothing gimmicky about the offense. There's nothing new about it. What's different is the combination of elements and its effectiveness but there's nothing new about spread, rpos, or tempo. Hell, Saban whined that when we threw in the I-Formation his guys had no clue what to do.

Heupel's offenses are creative but there's no gimmick to them.

In this instance, it just all depends upon how one defines "gimmick", I suppose. Obviously, you are defensive about the term being applied to what Heupel does, and I can understand that.

The triple option is viewd as a gimmick offense, largely because it is rare and creates mismatches with confusion.

Yours does the same with tempo. It is rare. People may face this type offense once, MAYBE twice a season.

Gimmick, in this instance, can be synonymous with rare.

If it were common, people would defend it better, because they would be practicing for it, week in and week out. It wouldn't be a "gimmick".

I mean, it's all in how one views it, I suppose.

Tennessee played way over their heads the entire season due to a gimmicky offense.

Nailed it. Go fast, so fast, defenders don’t know who to cover, wide open td pass.

For every Georgia fan who is talking shite about UT...just think back to 2001-2009 and how happy you are that Willie Martinez isn't your secondary coach (or God forbid, Defensive Coordinator) anymore. That MF-er is the gift that keeps on giving.

Elite defensive coaches understand this, and prepare for it all season, a little at a time, when scheduled. Kirby admitted to using time on off weeks and in the preseason working on the Huepel offense with his defense. I'm sure no other team on our schedule got this special treatment, and this was before the world anointed UT as the GOAT offense ever.

But, it's not a "gimmick", says Prof.

It ain't the players, it's the system, largely. Granted, you have to have a QB who can make quick reads on his routes and the defense, presnap and post, but the rest is plug and play. That's the nature of a rare offense. It can level the playing field against superior talent.

Group of Five, shite.

Ouch. When a homer like you criticizes your head coach like this, I can’t imagine what a hater would say.

Special Agents Muschamp & Bobo performed admirably in their saboteur roles.

Agent Martinez appears to be holding up his end of the bargain.

Paul Johnson had some nice seasons at GT with his Division 1-AA offense.

the real mystery is how an SC offense capable of that scored all of 6 points the week before in Gainesville.

They didn’t. Those 6 points were scored by the ST. The offense scored 10 vs Mizzou, 0 vs UF, and 63 vs UTjr.

I heard Hooker and banks got into a fight that Friday. Banks didn’t come to the game. I heard the Defense just didn’t really try..
But I also want to give the Game Cocks full credit.Maybe they just played really well..
The whole game just doesn’t make sense to me.
A loss is 1 thing but to get blown out like that is something else.

There's an argument among "insiders" on the boards as to who actually called the plays. USC's offense has been boring, predictable, and horrifically complicated all year long. See the Mizzou and UF games as exhibits A and B.

But on Saturday, the offense was quick with its reads, and as mentioned, Rattler was dropping dimes. He had total command over where the ball was going, but more than that, there was a creativity that we hadn't seen all season. DK Joyner was getting into the plans, etc.

Go back and watch the game, and it's honestly pretty apparent that Beamer is talking to someone on the headset for the plays, and it's not Satterfield, who is on field. I personally believe that WR coach Stepp called the plays, or at least had a heavy hand in it. This wasn't a Satterfield offensive performance. Satt can scheme, and that's been evident in film review. But he doesn't use the middle of the field, at all, and that's where Rattler and Wells/Brooks/Vann lived.

Also want to commend the Vols fans in this thread for being decent and gracious about the loss. We're no strangers to heartbreak, so we get it.

But I do hope this one stung Vols&Shaft a bit. Gamepenises evoked prison rules.

Maybe USC was ready and we just had no answers for them..
I honestly feel like they deserved a blow out win. I just wished it would have been Clemson and not us..
Game Cocks I hope y’all do it again this weekend..
