Here is some postseason prognostication for this season's have-nots of SEC basketball.

NIT bracketology is scarce and probably more volatile than NCAA Tournament bracketology, but I guess that we will work with what we have.

NIT bracketology

5. Ole Miss

And that's it. I could be wrong, but I think that a team has to be .500 overall or better to get into the NIT, which precludes some teams in the SEC that honestly are probably as good or better than some other teams in that projected field.

I don't expect UGA to beat Alabama on Saturday, but maybe we could get a win or two in the SEC tournament and back into the NIT. It is a shame that UGA has been so bad for the past few years that I am hoping that we can back into the NIT, but that is where we are right now.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Watching a Macon GA Murder story on the on ID Channel right now

-Also, will be weird to see about the list of teams for NCAA that might be left out, but play in NCAAT due to tourney teams not passing Covid test.

Exactly, it'll be a repeat of the bowl season

I don't think so for a couple of reasons.

First programs really need the money and basketball tournaments (unlike low tier bowl games) are profitable.

Second, and more importantly, COVID numbers are in free fall in most places. Bowl season was over the holidays when the numbers were at their absolute worst. That's long gone now.

Kentucky won't make it because they won't have a winning record

Right now if they won out they'd finish at .500, but would also earn the auto bid. If they win 5 in a row and then lose the conference tournament championship game they wouldn't qualify for the NIT, but they might actually end up making the NCAA tournament.

I think it's win out or bust for us at this point. I don't see us making the SEC CG and losing, but still getting an NCAA bid unless some teams start coming up with COVID-19 quarantines beforehand.

Actually, it doesn't - or at least it doesn't cost very much. Traveling teams are reimbursed for air fare or bus costs and each person is given a per deim to cover food and lodging. The most recent documentation I could find quickly was from 2013. Back then they paid for up to 25 people in the official party. First 3 rounds got $130 per diem each. If they made the final four that amount went up to $185 each. The host team also got $1,000 to provide a meal for the visiting team on game day.

That's before the schools/conferences get the payout for ticket sales, tv revenue, etc.

So, in a nutshell, it's dang near impossible to take a financial loss if you're traveling in the NIT.

The Steven McDaniel case, a classic

The best part is the interrogation. The guy is acting like a robot and the southern detective just keeps asking him “Why Stayvin, why?

I'd be surprised if a lot of teams don't pass up bids to the NIT this season.
