That balances out because if he loses a player, he can replace that player with a transfer. See Gibbs. We lost Wheaton, and got Gibbs. Nick's problem is he needs to simplify the defense and just let the athletes make the plays. The defense is too complex and easily beaten with motion and stacking the receivers

That's one way to look at it..

But you're also one injured QB and one Jimbo Fisher away from having 3 losses.

Saban loves corners on a island. He doesn’t have the corners he used to have.

the corners weren't the problem on Saturday. The problem was the stack scheme that allowed Tennessee to get a favorable matchup for Hyatt against Hellams, a safety

Saban's issue is Saban. His unwillingness to evolve defensively is killing Alabama. Complex pro level man to man schemes are easily attacked on the college level because you can confuse 18-21 year olds easily with stacks and motions. You don't have the time to properly teach them everything because of time constraints unlike at the pro level. He needs to simplify the scheme and let the athletes make the plays

Why is this an actual thing? I remember in years past when folks (fellow LSU fans) were predicting the demise of Bama because offenses were changing, and nobody thought he would change with the times.

Unfortunately (for us), he did, starting with bringing in Kiffen to revamp and modernize his offenses.

Is he really unwilling to make the same changes defensively? Or, maybe, is he just tired and at the end of his rope, looking to delegate defensive schemes to someone else besides himself (he was, after all, a defensive guy by nature).

I think it's the latter. And, unfortunately for Bama, he hitched his twilight years to a DC that makes Chief look like a 3rd-down wunderkind.

Could be both. All I know is he needs to simplify it. He needs to consult some guys on different schemes and fronts to run against certain sets. He did this early on with Bob Stoops to stop Florida and it worked beautifully. Maybe its just different always being the hunted instead of the hunter. I'm sure it gets exhausting

247 shows they have the most talented roster. The problem is that they are the most undisciplined team in college football. I believe they have been penalized for more yards than anyone?

Saban can still recruit, he’s just become soft and that has to do with either his age or his progressivism interfering too much with his previously successful coaching style.

Bama still has the best or close to the best players YoY.

They are not reloading the coordinator spots like they used to.

When you go from
Kiffin / Sark / Smart

to

O'Brien and Golding.

Whoof.

With great talent comes a lot of poverty.

So you're saying that Alabama has a Nick Saban problem. Seems like I've heard this song before.

They come off as entitled and smug. This was an issue last year as well. It seems like they expected teams to just roll over early and quit because they are Alabama

And the last time it was said, he evolved the offense and won three more titles. He just needs to evolve the defense to a zone blitz scheme

Gotta also factor in the transfer portal, 5* athletes aren't sitting 3rd string at Bama anymore when they can transfer and play immediately

You were probably one of those people saying the spread offense will be the end of Saban. We are talking about the greatest coach in college football history not some Joe blow. He will adapt just like he has with the spread and losing coaches every single year. Close to being 4-3? Also close to being 7-0 without a suspect PI call that would of iced the game! Obviously with the NIL Alabama has struggled because they are no longer 2 and 3 deep at almost every position. These diva football players claim they love a school and sign there but the one time they face some adversity or get challenged they hit the road. Yes it has absolutely leveled the playing field! You do know Bama won the best conference in college football and played for a title last year correct?

NIL is a large factor as the Bear Bryant/booster system to pay off recruits has been made obsolete by NIL.

Throw in the transfer portal and revolving door assistants,

Then Saban himself, I've noticed over the last two years that he looks like he's slowed down.

We are two last second field goals from losing no regular season games in 3 years. The horror!

Not sure the Gump faithful are ever going to truly turn on St. Nicky. They'd rather blame the coordinators than the man in charge.

We went through our own similar purgatory with Les "Poon Hound" Miles and his less than stellar coaching hires. Malveto comes to mind....

The difference is that the Tiger faithful (rightly) held Miles' feet to the fire for his piss-poor coordinator hires. You can't blame a man for doing what he was hired to do - if it isn't working, you blame the man that hired him.
