Yeah that's a really good point.
This is the understandable reason; however, if they want to they can certainly solve this problem easily to allow coaches to participate in games if they want to.
Saban certainly won't be the only coach in this situation, it just depends on if the powers at be want to figure out a way to allow coaches to still communicate in this situation - which I'm sure they didn't think about until yesterday.

It's already come up with Norvell at FSU. Norvell had to self-isolate for 10 days and wasn't allowed to coach the rivalry game at No. 14 Miami.

Kirby could solve this easily by telling the NCAA that he doesn't care if Saban can talk to his players on the phone or zoom or whatever. Then the NCAA could waive it.

Would he be able to call in to his coaches during halftime?
Seems like due to CV19 he should be able to have some ability to communicate with the coaches during the game or during half time..
SEC should ammend the rules to allow for coaches that have to isolate have the ability to use technology to provide real time coaching

So the NCAA rule applies to Norvell but needs to be amended for Saban

Oh I didn't know that, guess they just aren't worried about it then.

I feel like a competent organization probably would have amended at that time but that may be expecting too much.

I mean, why don't they let him be there and just keep him 6 feet away from other people? Everybody knows the Rona can only jump 5.5 feet.

Nick shouldn't complain. Under his gameday coaching the defense has been awful. I'm sure that the DC can do better.

Saban knows when he doesn't know an area. I'm guessing he supported the measures because he believed the doctors/health officials knew what they were doing.

Saban is such a whiny bitch. Wahhh the rules shouldn’t apply to me, wahhhh

Does anybody really believe a coach out with covid will follow the rule

It shouldn't have happened to Norvell, and it should be changed moving forward for all coaches it may affect, not just Saban

Or, just during extenuating circumstances related to COVID, could they have a proctor from the NCAA observe Saban (or any coach) during the game, to prevent an unfair advantage?
I think there would be liability concerns with having an NCAA employee being forced to physically monitor someone known to be infected with COVID. It presents a legal issues I don't think the NCAA would even risk exposing themselves to. In fairness, I have also pondered that same idea but, upon further reflection, I can see why that might not be a realistic alternative.

I can see his point to a degree. I mean, he's the coach and I am not entirely certain how it would give him an advantage.
Maybe not being at the game the coach might not feel the stress/pressure as acutely brought on by cameras, crowd and stuff like that.....maybe?

Where did I say that shite?
It should be for all coaches. I have no idea on the Norvell situation but if is in same deal then he should have been able to as well.

Do you think Norvell didn't want to coach against Miami or that the FSU fans didn't think the rule sucked and complain about it?

According to sources Nick Saban has tested negative the last 2 days. One more and all this is a moot point.

Saban probably never had the virus to begin with. This sounds like it was a publicity stunt. He will be on the sidelines Saturday.

Sure, the biggest game of the year and coach Saban didn't want to be at practice this week. "Paranoia runs deep, into your life it will creep." Buck up dude.
