There is legislation to allow that 8 th official right now.
When they slow down the spotting of the ball for play Saban gets exactly what he wanted to begin with.

The 8th official actually accommodates HUNH offenses because the ball is spotted FASTER. That's why the Big12 went to 8 last year......

DUH !

The player safety issues was a smokescreen , so is the Officials being out of position. The 10 seconds is time needed to send the play from the sideline and get players in position.

An 8 th official. Another set of eyes to catch all the illegal motion illegal formations and illegal plays some of the HUNH teams get away with.

Or maybe call all the offensive holding penalties certain teams always get away with

As long as the officials are in position the chains are set on a first down and no one is moving faster than they normally would to accomplish this YOU are FOS.

HUNH coaches jump up and down work the officials and get them to work faster than normal. That isn't going to happen this year.

His job is to advance his team's interests any way he can.

The rules were changed in 2008 and that made what the HUNH teams do more effective. If he can get them changed he should.

College football teams have historically ran 60 or so plays a game, in the process of becoming Americas most popular college sport. Some teams now run 90+, which exposes a player to 40-50 percent more contact possibilities than those players who have played over the course of the last century, Cumulative injury research will impact the speed of the game at some point

They added an extra ref to be used if needed (HUNH games). They added an extra man to help catch more things in faster games. Not to slow the game down. You don't need extra refs for that. So Saban isn't getting the game slowed down like he wants. The NCAA is just adding extra refs to help while keeping the game the way it is. The refs are not going to slowly walk to their positions to please Saban.

The NFL average is a little over 60, why should college players run 90?

You guys win championships on your own merit, so why would you want to coattail a championship?

Leave that for the mississippi schools.

Because it helps some teams that doesn't have a ton of talent. The NFL has rules to the keep the talent levels more balanced. CFB is a completely different game than the NFL.

Saban said he didn't have anything to do with the 10 sec rule. He just wants the game to be played the way he thinks it should be played. Installing an 8th ref will help control the game. I like to puff during a game so I am behind Saban because the HUNH loses me and kills my buzz.

Also someone touched on the Anthony Swain rule of flailing a while back. The player should have to leave the game for 3 plays and like college basketball the opposing coach gets to choose who replaces him.

The college football median is around 73.5, while in the NFL the median is around 64.5. It is interesting you parrot the line that uses the NFL average where 32 teams who operate under the draft system, a salary cap and free agency designed to trend towards parity and compare it to the highest number run by one of 125 FBS college teams where the parity of the NFL doesn't exist.

It might lead one to think you are being intentionally intellectually dishonest or that you are just intellectually bankrupt.

Which college team averaged 90 plays per game?

You do realize only a total of 7 teams averaged over 80 plays per game, right?

70 teams ran between 70 and 80 ppg.
47 teams ran between 60 and 70 ppg.
1 team ran less than 60 ppg (2-10 USF).
