FWIW, Nick Saban did coach against the 1995 Nebraska team. His 1st game as head coach of Michigan State, lost 50-10. Any guesses to who Nick Saban lost to in the bowl game that year?

Saban has never been an overachiever.

Spurrier was diabolical. An evil genius with no mercy.
Saban is just hard-nosed and boring as hell.
I'll go with Spurrier because he was more fun to hate.

Nick Saban is 10x the coach spurrier will ever be. And he is less of a sore loser too

Saban is a robot, Spurrier is a human, I prefer the human.

The SEC was way less deep when Florida was dominating, also Florida could never get over the hump most of the time and got 1 national title.

Saban has 4 in an era where the SEC is a much stronger conference.

Not even close.

UF in the 90's was great don't get me wrong.

Did you miss the part about Saban being helped by technology and money?

I mean, good for him for taking advantage of such circumstances.

I've never heard his name with pay for play or a ton of terrible arrests.

Saban is the other option, not Chizik.

We had saban and I still pick spurrier. He is by far better coach and entertaining as well. Give saban those florida teams and he loses way more games

I really want to know the rationale behind this thinking. Florida was bringing in some pretty talented players during the 1990s. Spurrier's innovations on offense don't tell the full story of him averaging 9 or 10 wins in the regular season every year. To remain that consistent requires talent and Florida had loads of it in the 1990s.

Spurrier. He did more with less. Saban couldn't even beat ULM with the talent at bama. Saban wins on talent and Spurrier won on coaching.

This is really what it comes down to. Spurrier started beating the frick out of people with lesser teams when he got to UF.

In his first year, he beat Bama and Stallings in Tuscaloosa and handed Pat Dye the worst lost EVER. Worst beating any Pat Dye team ever took by far. And he finished with the best record in the SEC and FL had NEVER won an SEC title before.

His second year he beat the frick out of a Bama team that would finish the year 11-1. Beat them 35-0. Went undefeated in the SEC and finished #5 in the country.

Spurrier started beating the shite out of people with less talent from day 1, while the Gators were still on probation no less.

Saban has never and could never outcoach people like the Ole Ball Coach did.

Spurrier couldn't even go undefeated with any of those teams.

Spurrier 1990-2001 UF 11 seasons
6 CC'c, 1 NC
Saban 2000-2004 LSU, 2007-2012 UA, 11 seasons
4 CC's, 4 NC's

Both great coaches and easily top 5 in SEC history but is this really a question?

Spurrier at Florida was Bob Stoops at Oklahoma. I'd take Saban any day, I think everyone else saying otherwise is either trolling or wants to contradict the mainstream answer

And I think "Saban's Decade" will end up being the 2010s, not the 2000s

Florida went 9-2 and 10-2 in 1990 and 1991 respectively. Those were some good teams.
