It was a sign of the times.. lightning in a bottle of sorts. He will always be the goat, but at the end, Nick Saban was looking for 2011-2018 teams (and their competition), without the difficuilties of NIL and the portal.

Funny thing is Saban told everyone EXACTLY how all of this would play out, portal included

Most posters here ridiculed him for it.

But we just need the next GOAT to come in and pick up where Saban left off. We'll eventually get it when we demand it just like we always do.

You are retarded.

That’s why they should work with Congress to get laws passed so they have force of law protecting them from all these idiots running these collectives and any other people that does not have the best interest of the game in mind.

The four team playoff was a reaction to 2011. Before then, a team could have a good year, win a bowl game, and be relatively happy. Ever since, it has been make the playoff or the year is a complete bust.

Agree, it’s like the old saying in baseball. If you fail 7 out of ten times out of your career as a hitter then you’ll be in the HOF most likely.

What exactly did you directly contribute to what Bear Bryant and Nick Saban did at Alabama? I am interested to hear how you will demand anything. Are you a major donor?

I’d say you’re right, in part.

In the old school days, great programs would have to wait 2-3 years for a senior laden team to make a serious run, and suffer 3-5 loss seasons in the interim. Saban broke the mold.

I think boosters have become impatient/have inflated expectations from NIL and the nature of big, annual $$ investment

Saban set a bar that no one else will reach…so yes he broke college football….and I might add that NIL broke Nick Saban.

How else can you explain the NCAA taking wins away from Sparty when big brother Michigan ran the most elaborate and illegal surveillance spying system ever seen in any sport? Michigan state pays for the wolverine’s tactics

I think we'll get a course correction in the next few years.

Urban Meyer

Nick Saban made him retire from coaching.

Kirby Smart is Nick Saban’s protege.

Ryan Day won his first national championship last season. Ohio State fans demanded he be fired in 2023 after Michigan beat them for the 3rd year in a row and then won the national championship.

Ohio State didn’t fire him and Ohio State won the national championship last season.

The fact that Lane Kiffin is the hottest name in coaching is proof something has changed.

I think Virginia Tech will do well with James Franklin.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with what you're saying but why isnt it 2009-2020 Nick Saban?

The NCAA has always suffered from nepotism. Now that they have had their balls cut off and placed in a jar they have to work hard to continue the tradition.

Michigan should have had all their wins vacated for 2022 and 2023. But that would have opened some doors they didn’t want opened, especially with Brent Venables at Clemson. If they had vacated Michigan wins for sign stealing they would have opened Pandora’s box. They were not doing that. Too much money involved.

The NIL is less of a problem than the portal IMO.

Let’s face it, money isn’t an issue for the top programs, we all have lots. Where the issues are really showing is in the lines. Miss on a portal target or two and it hurts. Have linemen transfer rather than take a couple years developing and you’re screwed.

Good DC know how to attack weak points, and we’re seeing it every Saturday.

Because he didn’t win the SEC West every year between 2009-2020. He was good, but he didn’t dominate like he did from 2011-2018. Alabama finished 4th in the SEC west in 2010 and 2nd in 2019. Some Alabama fans were apocalyptic and demanded a new coach.
