Who does everyone predict will be the next schools to join the SEC, if it expands yet again? Here are some overall thoughts on the next round of expansion:

I wish it would stop.

Wouldn’t mind if it contracted a lot.

But if we “have to” I’d go for the ACC schools.

No way would anyone like having a PAC team or big12 team.

First tier: Clemson, Miami, Fsu , VT
Second tier: ncsu, UNC, gt,

Well….If the BIG tries to expand into the South, the SEC will have to make a move on Clemson, FSU, North Carolina, or Miami.

Doesn't the ACC have a TV deal until 2036? That would have to fall through before ACC teams could jump ship I'd imagine

SEC doesn't have to move on anyone. We are the premiere conference.

I would put North Carolina ahead of others in the ACC. No doubt Clemson has already called Sankey, and they would fit, but Fla State blew their chance when they turned down an SEC offer earlier - and they are not that special these days. I would put Virginia ahead of the land grant schools. No doubt Virginia and North Carolina are calling both the Big 10 and the SEC. Would not be surprised to see both Big 10 and SEC with 20 schools and their own playoff. Sankey warned "the Alliance" that the playoff deal they turned down may not be there next time. Nest time has arrived.

I think the ACC survives this. The battle is going to be between the Big 12 and the PAC 12. One will most likely absorb the other. I tend to think that the Big 12 may be the loser. There aren't really any major powers left. At least the PAC 12 has Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona, Washington State, Colorado, and AZ State. To end the Big 12, they would simply need to add 2 teams out of TX Tech, Kansas, K State, and OK State. The ACC may actually try to poach WVA out of ease just to bolster their numbers.

The Big 12 currently looks a lot like the Big East after they lost Miami and VA Tech.

I hope there isn't one, but if there is, North Carolina and Virginia are the big gets. If you can't get them, then NC State and Virginia Tech. The two states are too rich and populous to not penetrate, and you know the BIG will get in there if we don't, and maybe even if we do.

If it's more than 2, then next some grouping of Florida State, Clemson, Miami, West Virginia, or Georgia Tech. I could do without Miami.

I don't want to expand any more; we're already pushing the envelope at 16, but it's seems like more is coming. If we have to, I don't want to expand further north than the Virginias or any further west at all.

Only for the moment. The ACC is on life support now.

The "alliance" wasn't worth the paper it wasn't printed on. Seems pretty clear that Greg Sankey wasn't the only one sending secret love notes to other conference's members.

Oregon and Washington will leave for the Big 10 soon. Otherwise, USC and UCLA have turned themselves into very fancy West Virginias. There's no way they planned to be just a couple of outposts. They had to know that this would get the dominos falling and they wouldn't be on an island. All that remains to be seen is how big the BIG's footprint on the West Coast will ultimately be.

The ACC GOR is big, but at some point schools won't be able to afford not to pull the trigger. The ACC, as we currently know it, might live to 2036 at the very latest. The big brands will decamp eventually, leaving what's left to form the Big East Part Deux.

I don't understand George Kliavkoff and Jim Phillips. Maybe it's because they were new, but they should have known better than to trust some gentleman's agreement, after watching Greg Sankey prison shank Bob Bowlsby. They were literally handed a guaranteed path to the playoffs for their respective leagues that would have held them together for the foreseeable future, but threw a tantrum because the SEC did what everyone else would have done--something that's absolutely undeniable now.

Instead, they wanted a "holistic review of college football." The results of that review? The existence of the PAC and ACC as major conferences is no longer necessary. I'm assuming that Kliavkoff and Phillips didn't see that coming in the old review.

ACC has an air tight contract but if I had to choose I would sure up our basketball side (football is locked up) add UNC and Duke. A conference with KU, Duke, and UNC would be wild.

If the BIG 10 goes after Oregon and Washington, we should immediately button it up with AZ, AZ State and throw a lifesaver to TX Tech and OK State.

Hell, we could even divide divisions between the founding 10 and the newest 10.

Maybe we can make an SEC "lite" division like the English soccer league where the best team in that league can get regulated to the big boy league.

I would assume the SEC will cannibalize the ACC, grabbing all those traditional rivals (Florida St, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Louisville), plus maybe expanding into North Carolina and Virginia.

A non-ACC dark horse could be Arizona St

If we have to add more, need a NC school and a VA school. Then whatever prestigious school is left. Maybe Duke/UNC/NC State that is left, maybe FSU and/or Clemson. Not much else to choose from.

Notre Dame is not going to the Big 10. They are already a full voting member of the ACC, just choose to operate as a football independent. If Notre Dame wants to jump in a conference, they are going to jump fully into the ACC like they did during COVID. This really helps the ACC brand. All the ACC has to do is bolster its number with the no shortage of teams that will be begging for a spot in the new CFB order.

That would be the desire, or the SEC could partner with the ACC, since the ACC was smart enough to solidify contracts (which the schools all agreed with, by the way).

Like I said, I think the ACC adds ND eventually and survives this. Our best option is to go west. Grab AZ, AZ State and throw a life line to TX Tech and OK State or add Colorado and K State (I think Kansas is headed to the BIG). With the addition that we already have of former Big 12 teams, this actually makes geographic sense.

I think we need to be careful not to add schools for the sake of adding schools. They need to be good cultural fits.
