They were desperate, it was State and they were just coming off possibly their worst decade ever (which is saying a lot) so they were scrambling to get money, calling everybody.

They went to the NCAA bc they were butthurt that Cecil didn't actually have control of his son and Cam went where he wanted which was Auburn. Cam knew nothing, or maybe he didn't care since he knew he was going to make several hundred times that amount in the NFL anyway. And Auburn actually self reported this before State did after they caught wind of the failed scheme. State only acted out of butthurt and an to save their own skin.
