Does Canady need to win a NC to be worth it? Or will she boost the program and that’s enough?

That'd be cool to drive to campus to take a picture, but I'm too lazy and live in SE Austin.

On one hand, "it's just softball" but for a school like Texas Tech, having a billionaire oilman pay $1M/year for a chick that's going to inject Tech's name into the sports conversation is definitely worth it.
Next year's WCWS final is very likely OU vs. Tech.

Crazy season to finally win it all.
Nobody saw this coming. We got our asses kicked by A&M in the SEC tournament. Clemson had us on the mat. These girls kept getting up and punching back. Really cool to watch.

Hey Texas 1st Baseman Joley Mitchell is from Rose Bud, AR, you aren't riding anything.

Can't believe Clemson didn't walk Texas off in the supers. 2nd and 3rd no outs with a tied game in bottom of the 7th inning with Clemson leading the series 1-0

John Sellers is the one who ponied up for Canady. His wife played softball at Tech and she wanted to turn the program around, it was money well spent in that regard.

Nijaree will always be remembered in tech lore as the girl who cost over $1 million jus t to choke in the finals and let Texas put the little sisters in their place once again

In her defense, a crappy school paid a million dollars to come be their mule for the season. If you work that mule 24/7 for an entire season, it's going to be broke down at the end. I love watching Team Mahomes think buying 1 player will win you a championship.

I'm really proud of these ladies. They had their down moments and backs against the wall just to fight back and win a natty as the 6th seed.

Congratulations to the LongHorn fans!

I mean she single-handily took a nothing softball program to within one game of a national title

The WCWS finals have outperformed the CWS multiple times for TV viewers the last few years.
I know it's not football or men's basketball, but yes, I believe it's become popular enough to inject some serious cash into getting players.
And we're seeing that happen with quite a few 6-figure NIL deals...and as of earlier today, a second 7-figure deal for Canady.
I don't know the financial details for any other schools, but I do know that Oklahoma softball brought in over $4 million last year and made around $1.2 million in profit.
I don't see why other top programs shouldn't produce positive revenue as long as the sport continues to grow at this pace.
