I understand where you're coming from, but shouldn't it be as simple as - you have the football, you decide when to snap it?

There is already a rule in place that limits when the O can snap it like allowing the D to sub after the O subs. So the question becomes should the O be able to dictate when the D is able to sub?

And you would prefer this? In such a competitive sport?

I just want to know what the big deal is when it comes to giving the defenses 10 seconds to substitute players in and out. Can someone please give me a coherent argument against such a scheme other than the typical conspiracy theories?

This will not change the HUNH if passed. The play clock starts when the runner is down. By the time the ref spots the ball and O has lined up 10 seconds is gone.

Personally, yeah I think so, chalk it up to the advantage of possession of the football. And like I said, the defensive isn't paralyzed here, they can call a timeout.

Im an LSU fan, this rule change would benefit us just as much as bama. I just can't see any reason to support it, outside of the fact that it would help my team.

Sorta what I'm saying. Might pass, won't affect us much, does highlight Gump fear which is fun to chuckle at.

As soon as the fans for the rule can give a real reason on how the speed of the game is any more of a strain on the defensive players than it is on the Offensive ones. Both sides have to run at that speed and use the same amount of energy. It comes down to who is in shape enough to handle the speed.

I don't care about this rule specifically, and it probably is going too far to prevent a legit problem in the game. A defense should have the opportunity to a)substitute players at least every other play b)have enough time for the DL that was chasing the QB around in the backfield to get back to the LOS and actually get in their stance before the ball is snapped again.

I'm glad the NCAA is addressing this issue and whether this particular rule passes or not...we all now know where the NCAA is headed with this. Nick Saban....

The NH folks should put an extra 3 players on the field before each play and then take the extras off right before the snap...if they do it right, there is no foul, and it will screw up D's badly.

It would be fun watching SECr heads explode.

Defensive players don't know what play is about to happen and most must "read and react". Therefore physical strain is amplified because of the effect it has mentally. Also Offensive lineman only have to "push" forward as it were on running plays where as defensive lineman are almost always pushing and straining.

Dline is more physically tolling than oline.

We just changed our entire offense and now this happens?

No more than the offensive players having to react to the defense realigning and figuring out who may be blitzing. Do we need to make everyone come and stand in their position for so many seconds before the play can start to be fair for both sides?

My other issue is that it's not like you go into a game NOT KNOWING that your opponent is going to be running the HUNH... you know damn well that's what they are going to do... so.. plan accordingly. Nick Saban isn't sitting on the sidelines getting blindsided by this tactic, it just takes away the innate advantage of having a roster of 85 monsters vs whomever with less.

Not true.

It takes more energy to be the chaser than the one being chased. In other words, offensive players know which direction the play is going as well as how to get there using the shortest distance. Defensive players expend more energy because they don't know where the play is going, forcing them to cover the whole field before finally deciding/knowing where the ball is going, and then spiriting like hell to get there before the offense turns it into a big play.
