No, it wasn't too extreme.

It's funny how people just think everything comes for free. That these players aren't getting anything for what they do. That all the education, training, support and all the money spent on them isn't real money, that the only one in this that brings any value to the table are the players.

Pretty ignorant if you ask me. It's all entitlement culture. These players are entitled to this and that.

And it's not even the top teams like Alabama that suffer from this. We'll just bring in a bunch of replacements from the portal also. It's a 2 way street.

Only what happens is what we saw this year with Gibbs. He spent 3 years at GT. They spent all that time coaching him, educating him, supporting him, etc. And when it came time for the payoff on their efforts towards him - he transfers to Alabama without penalty his final year.

Meanwhile, 95% of the transfers out of Alabama and other top schools are those who have been passed up on the depth chart and wouldn't get much playing time(outside of injury, they would only provide depth). Players which btw would have transferred out in the past as well. "Processing" isn't a new thing.

It's really just a benefit for the top teams. The more they consolidate the talent at the top, the worse it's going to be for the sport.

But hey, who cares about the things that have made college football great right? What's most important is getting the biggest TV contracts and allowing players to milk the most personal rewards possible. frick the small teams, nobody likes watching upsets anyway.

I agree with all the points that you made but the US Supreme Court ruled otherwise so the point is moot.

At the moment you can only transfer once without a waiver and play immediately. Anyone transferring twice either has a waiver or is doing so as a grad transfer.

I'm not sure why so many people don't realize this.

Maybe it's b/c of the free year that the NCAA gave everyone for COVID? A lot of portal guys the last couple of years have been seniors looking to use their extra year of eligibility. Perhaps once everyone has exhausted their COVID expectation the portal will lower a bit?

What we are seeing with the portal is like the NFL.. but every team has 85 free agents. Its unsustainable

Actually great highly scalable businesses with a lot of potential for private equity roll ups. I've had some discussions with several contacts about them. Of course this would be messy and complicated.

The Supreme Court ruled on NIL.
I don't remember the ruling having anything to do with transfers.

You have a link?

The supreme court only ruled that the NCAA couldn't stop the players from securing NIL deals.

The NCAA can still restrict the boosters of schools from entering them. It's actually still the rule now, the question is going to be if there is enforcement of those rules.

If not, time to bring out contracts.

He was talking about the monetary benefit of the free education, meals, stipends, athletic training, etc.

The portal has gotten worse each year.
It has nothing to do with covid.
It has to do with free agency (NIL) and playing time.

The sit out rule still allows every kid to get out of a bad situation.
It allows every kid to take their NIL bag.
It allows every kid to make a decision that is best for themselves.

It just applies an eligibility requirement no different than good grades or years removed from high school.

It is a good move for football.

The grad transfer rule also encourages kids to get their degree (and faster) to give more freedom for playing time.

That is the point I have been trying to make.

However, you have the dumbasses that can only parrot, "but muh free market"....

They don't understand that any free market venture has to have long term stability or it collapses.

It's not a free market. If it was a free market, the schools would have protection and rights.

They don't take coins anymore man... they don't even have employees or anyone on site, hence the high scalability. Alas this is getting too off topic.

Boomer seems to have struck a nerve. I'm just jokingly saying your view is out of touch, which it is here. I don't care if you're literally a boomer as in post WWII baby.

18-22 year old adults should be allowed to choose where to go to college and/or play football. They also don't care that you don't think they should get paid because it is "messing up" the sport you love. They have a very very rare skill set that makes a gigantic amount of money for the schools they play for along with making money for the businesses in the towns they play in. It also provides a lot of joy and value to fans/boosters.

As a general rule of thumb, people with a really rare skill set, that makes a lot of money, get paid a lot of money. Period. That's a fact in terms of how supply and demand work.

If you've got a good argument as to why their rights should be restricted then let's hear it otherwise have a good one

So you think fraud should be legal? That's a protection and a right. If you think a free market means anarchy, then you need to go back to school.

And I was talking about the ability for the schools to enter into contracts. Of which has been limited by the NCAA specifically with the rule that allows immediate transfers. AKA, the topic of this discussion.

Meaning, the fact you do not think the schools should be allowed to do these things is in itself the very thing that stops it from being a free market.

The response was fine, it's a broad topic. But the supreme court ruling was actually pretty limited.

3rdDown made a point about the financial benefits of the old system and I simply commented on it. You came across the room, like a confused old lady and interjected a point about the portal, which was not what I was replying to him about.

You can simply see yourself out of that side conversation for all of our sakes.

I replied about the Supreme Court and NIL.

I don't disagree that I was from left field. I don't disagree I am unaware of the context of your thread.

But Supreme Court = NIL decision.
Nothing to do with tuition, meals, transfers, etc..
