Or it could be that some smart people (smarter than you or I) found the loopholes to make pay for play legal. Time will tell.

NCAA Enforcement Begins Attempted NIL Crackdown With Miami Inquiry

Yes please. Nobody will care if the NCAA hammers them after they got off when they had a Miami booster actually confess to a dozens of violations. Miami didn't care, they just wanted that money.

Left to right, Miami basketball coach Frank Haith, booster Nevin Shapiro, Miami president Donna Shalala (holding the check).

False. The rules already existed. Boosters have never been allowed to contact recruits and make them offers in exchange for play. That's always been the rule, it's never changed.

The only thing that happened is some dumb people thought the supreme court made pay to play legal.

Allowing schools or states writing their own rules makes it not so False.

This is where people continue to be wrong. Any enrolled student athlete was eligible for NIL deals. As much as they wanted, as many as they wanted. No cap.

You CAN NOT offer an NIL deal to a prospect. THIS is where Saban went off. Not that people were getting NIL deals, that they were being offered to high school prospects. That is illegal and has been from the start. The NCAA needs to nut up like oh say, 2001. They would get your attention back then. They haven't really punished anybody since USC in 2010.

It's never been legal for boosters to contact recruits and make them offers for going to their school.

Anyone who thought otherwise is mistaken.

According to Texas state law it is very false

TEXAS

Governing Body: Texas University Interscholastic League

State NIL Law: Senate Bill 1385 – Prohibits high school athletes from engaging in NIL activities;

” (j) No individual, corporate entity, or other organization may:

(1) enter into any arrangement with a prospective student athlete relating to the prospective student athlete’s name, image, or likeness prior to their enrollment in an institution of higher education; or

(2) use inducements of future name, image, and likeness compensation arrangement to recruit a prospective student athlete to any institution of higher education. “

Don't care. The NCAA either committed suicide by failing to act responsibly or it is the end of amateur athletics as we know (knew) it. Transfer portal will accelerate one or the other's demise.

I don't hide behind the bush.

Miami broke the rules, the rules were obvious the entire time, and now I'm just waiting to see if the rules get enforced.

I hope everyone who used NIL to recruit gets their balls nailed to floor. A&M included, who looks to be the worst of the bunch.

I thought that was pretty clear.

Role of Boosters

quote:

Only institutional staff members are permitted to recruit prospective student-athletes. Generally, NCAA rules prohibit anyone else from contacting (calling, writing or in-person contact) prospects or the prospect’s relatives or guardian for recruiting purposes.

Students are still considered prospects even if they have signed a National Letter of Intent or any other financial aid agreement with a university.

Boosters are not precluded from continuing established friendships with families who have prospective student-athletes. However, boosters may not encourage a prospect’s participation in university athletics or provide benefits to prospects that were not previously provided.

If a violation occurs, it may jeopardize a student-athlete’s eligibility for intercollegiate competition, jeopardize a school’s membership status with the NCAA or cause a booster to lose access to all booster benefits.
