This is a terrible rule that will hopefully not be passed. It would completely kill defensive strategy on kickoffs. Also, like most rules introduced, it favors offense over defense since the risk of starting off inside of/around your own 10 or 15 would be substantially reduced. How important or consequential can it be, in a close game, for a team to kick off short and pin the opposition's offense deep, flipping the field? The difference between 1st and 10 from the 10 and first and ten from the 25 is huge in terms of the pressure, play-calling, and obviously field position. Very inane rule. SHOULD NOT BE PASSED!

it'd have to be more.
I imagine the chance of converting a 4th and 10 is higher than getting an onside.
4th and 15?

Limit CBS commercials. Time problem solved

This is a dumbass rule. Might as well just have onside kicks at the 35 if this is what they want to do.

They are going to do away with Standard Kickoffs within 10 years anyway, better to just go ahead and do it now so people can get their bitching out and over with.
Personally, I'm fine with it. Doesn't affect the game nearly as much as naysayers will claim, does help player safety, and by all rights should speed the game up, eliminating one commercial break entirely (commercial, kick, commercial). 90% of the time we return one, there's a block in the back anyway. Just give the kicking team the option for onside kick or opponent at the 25.

This is a high risk play but they did want to get rid of it so you could do on-side kicksc. (Seemed to help Bama a couple of years ago). so this is a compromise. I like it..
This was after an edit?

If the XFL ever really does come back, I think they'll get rid of the kickoff in order to save time. Nothing is more annoying than a touchdown... huge commercial break... kickoff... touchback... another huge commercial break...
I honestly wonder if once it's gone will we ever miss it.

I think this would probably be the beginning of the END of me watching college ball. I have already given up the nfl

Eliminate the KO and place the ball at the 25 yard line. Would speed the game up.
Would probably allow them to slide in more commercials during the automatic timeout after a fair catch

That basically means that 99.9% of all kickoffs for every game in every division would result in placing the ball at the 25. Might as well shitcan the whole thing.

They should first work on inservicing their umps on recognizing holding by players in red and white jerseys.
