Many have mentioned it that CFB people have been losing interest in it. Now with NIL and all the BS surrounding roster management it is continuing to see a decline. Fans were loyal to programs and the players. Players are all mercenaries and programs only want to bleed the fan dry.

The playoffs also had to many teams and the selection process really hurt it this year. When you allow a team like ND to have an easier path to the finals of course people are not going to watch a team they fully do not believe have a chance. At max maybe 8 teams but 6 would have been better.

22 million on Inauguration Day in the throes of nfl playoffs is still pretty good?

Looks like best case scenario for an iffy scheduling model by cfb

Agree with everything you said. Need to quickly roll back to 8 and get NIL and free agency under control or this thing we love is dead and gone. frick Greg Sankey

The biggest problem is the pacing and how long and drawn out the playoffs ended up being. It was clear after the Tennessee game that Ohio State was probably going to win the championship so a lot of people probably just lost interest as the games went on.

Also you can't have teams like oregon and ohio state meeting so early on while teams like penn state skate to the final 4 with easy opponents.

Yep. College football fans are used to the traditions and history and pageantry and nostalgia… and a late January game is so different, it almost doesn’t feel real. It had lost its buzz, especially when real college football fans already knew the outcome.

Interesting that 3 of the lowest rated championship games have been in the last 5 years

Proof that NIL is beginning to have an effect on fans?

I honestly forgot it was on until midway through. Kept thinking it was on a different day and was dealing with a sick relative all day. I have never liked how spaced out the playoff system is and it’s worse now.

One of the mysteries of the pandemic. Everyone was locked in at home, and TV ratings for literally everything plummeted.

True but video games saw a massive increase during the pandemic. MMOs and live service were pandemic winners. That influx of players faded away when people went back to work and school. Day time tv sucks so it makes sense

That 9-6 game was a painful watch. Hard to believe that was 14 years ago. Damn I’m old

I don't think inauguration was pulling that many people at 6 PM except for political horse race following freaks and sickos.

The thing is there were a lot of Monday night national title games that were much more well watched.

The issue is who is paying for the live event

Weekends reflect real traveling fans who have to be back at home and work on Monday

Weekdays reflect corporate seats as they are not paying and they can skip a weekday of work.

Everything use to be over by New Years.

Now it's 3 weeks later and it's done. Basically 2 months after the season is over and most people have moved on to other sports.

I had completely forgotten the game was even going to be on until someone posted about it here the day of.

They'll probably add games.

Twice as many games with 40% less viewers is a winner. Ching, ching!

Do you realize how many viewers a baseball game would have if they played once a week?

They don't care. Saturate with product and lower the sell price. It's more in the end.
