If Muss makes a deep run we will lock him down. If he doesn't I could see Hunter letting another overpay him. If he can't get to the sweet 16 with this group why would we want to keep him?

Because the NCAA tournament is fluky and his impressive regular season is a much better representation of his coaching ability?

So sweet 16 or you roll the dice on another coaching hire?

Success is measured by the post season in CBB. Like it or not you have to be able to make runs in the tourney. He got bounced early with a great Nevada team before coming here (I think he already had a foot out the door and didn't properly prepare) but if he does the same here I have no problem letting him go instead of getting locked into a ridiculous contract.

FWIW I think he is an amazing coach and want to keep him. Just calling it how I see it.

Nate Oats (Alabama) - Has really made this happen at Alabama in a short period of time, taking home this year's SEC regular season championship.

This is true.

The other thing that's true is he just signed a contract that has a $12 million buyout. He ain't going anywhere other than the dance this year.

Uh...because the NCAAt is a crapshoot and getting upset in a early round is no shame and shouldn’t be used as an indictment of a coach

Oats's buyout is $10M, or maybe $12M. I've read both. He's not going to Indiana.

I could definitely see Pitino going.

I swear some of our fans' brains implode when we are successful. What on god's flat earth is this take?

If we were happy getting bounced in the round of 32 why did we bother getting rid of mike?

If he flames out early for 3-4 years after good regular seasons? Alright, I get that conversation.

After 1 year?

Muss knows he's only second fiddle in the west every year behind the General Will Wade and Oats

He gone!

Indiana is to college basketball what Nebraska is to college football.

A lot of people are over reacting to not being a flaming sack of shite at the end of the regular season. I get that. It's been a while since we have been set up this well.

People also are turning my statement into "He needs to be fired if we don't get to the sweet 16". I didn't say that. I said we shouldn't give him a ridiculous contract if he gets bounced early and it isn't the end of the world if a desperate school does.

It's year two, with a completely rebuilt roster. Just got our highest seed since we won a national title and are the highest ranked we've been since we lost in the championship game. Plus, returning a bunch of guys next year...

Muss should get a huge extension no matter what happens in the tournament (unless we lose by 50 to Colgate or something ).

Yea, and I get that. But I think you guys found a pretty damn good head coach with a high floor. As we both know, basketball coaching searches can be like Russian Roulette. If you are gonna let a guy like Muss walk you better damn sure feel good about your next move.

No kidding. There's, what, 3 Top 10 teams there? Two of the #1 seeds as well.

B1G will probably drop off a bit at some point, but right now it's a meat grinder.

I agree. Like I said people are full boar Mussbus right now and are over reacting to my comment, which I totally understand but post season play is where your bread is buttered in this game.

It may not be fair but it's just how it is. It's when the sport gets by far the most attention (unless some guy in OK says something racist, then frick the tourney lets just talk about that all day but I digress).

I guess I just have more faith in Yurachek than my other fellow hog fans. If the price tag is too high I think he can deliver another winner. Again, I love Muss and want him to be our coach and did not say we should fire him if he doesn't make a s16.

Yea I got ya, and I understand where you are coming from too. You don't want to overpay a guy just to keep him away from others and then realize 2 years later that you are locked in and can't get out.
