Vinnie Sunseri was Bama's lowest rated signee out of the '11 class and was probably the most productive true freshman on the team - standing out all year on special teams and starting the last 2 games in the dime package. He'll be a starter at safety next year over several more highly rated prospects.
At the time he committed, many felt it was only because his father was a Bama coach. No one feels that way anymore.

See Suneri is a wierd situation. Low rating but in the AAA game, and the first player EVER to be named Mr. Football in two states.

Sean Weatherspoon for Mizzou. He was just a 2* out of high school.

I'm surprised Herring was that high out of high school. Dint he just play quarterback back then?

True. I think the services (and most D1 schools) knew he was a baller but thought he was undersized to play LB and not athletic enough to play DB. To this day, he is usually praised for his instincts, football IQ, "nose for the football", etc...which are all accurate but he is actually an elite athlete too. His athleticism is still under-rated.

Weatherspoon, Alexander, Egnew all 2*. All 3 were All-Americans
Ziggy Hood was also a 2* and ended up being a 1st rounder.
