My issue is that it was not an immediate recovery

The players stopped when the whistle blew and the MSU player walked over and picked it up. Ole Miss #11 could have recovered it,
The only fair thing in my opinion was to give Ole Miss the ball at the point where the pass was dropped

After the whistle and everyone stopped

Yes...you can see the official blow whistle and wave play dead.

If an out of bounds guy can just touch a fumbled ball in the hands of another player and cause the ball to be downed by the out of bounds player, then whistles don’t matter either. Call was right.

He never stopped .... The rules cover that clearly.

I'm pretty sharp on most rules and reviews in football.
But I don't know if that kind of play can be reviewed and the sound of a whistle be used to reverse it?

My issue is ref basically said the play never happened because of the whistle. The on field call was an inadvertent whistle resulted in a replay of the down.
Then they reviewed a play that never happened according to the call on the field. That isn't how replay is supposed to work.
The whistle wasn't until after the pass, so replay got it right in my opinion. I just don't like the bs way it was explained.

It wasn’t pretty, but would you have preferred an inadvertent whistle to an obvious backwards pass?

Wasn't right and neither is the ruling that an out of bounds player can stop a play.

Should have been dead ball, but didn’t change the game. Doesn’t matter

You forgetting where they said nothing happened and was going to give it back as a first down?

The ball was thrown behind the LOS and it was a fumble and we almost got screwed out of that with the refs but yeah, that whole thing was dumb officials.
Also, we tried to be Kentucky and give the game away with that damn fumble on their 1 yard line. It was almost exactly the same as KY did.

Play didn’t stop and nobody else possessed it. According to the rules that’s an immediate recovery.
Replaying the down due to an inadvertent whistle after an incomplete pass was what they got wrong, but corrected, and the correction is also the correct course of action. Not sure how you can make the argument that the play didn’t happen.
