I didn't know he was a dbag liberal or that he raised a tranny. None of that was evident when he was our coach.

We pretty damn happy he left Starkville.

I think the best response is if he didn’t spend money and was too cheap to improve the athletics at MSU, the fanbase is glad he took another job at another school

Curious as to the comments that he was a great baseball coach. Poor memory here, just asking, what did his teams win in the conference / playoffs?

Is this fact? Seriously, didn't know that.
It always seems the ones who advocate for that type (as his wife did) have one in the family

You’ll probably be able to get him back pretty cheap here soon.

Won an SEC championship, SEC tournament, and a CWS finals appearance. Good baseball coach, shite Athletic director.

MSU folks... your thoughts on John Cohen

Thoughts? He’s AU’s problem now.

He hired Joe Frikin Moorhead who was a buffoon from the word go.

He watched one of the best women’s basketball coaches in the nation, Vic Schaefer, waltz out the door while waving goodbye. Vic till this day has a large spread close to Starkville he comes back to.

Then hired an unqualified career assistant to replace Schafer that watched what Vic built crumble to the ground.

He hired Cannizaro to replace him as baseball coach. Cannizaro’s main focus was chasing tail all over and not baseball.

After that, he let Schlossnagle absolutely completely play his arse. He was so confident he was signing Schlossnagle that he was dropping hints that it was pretty much done. Schlossnagle got the raise he was looking for at TCU and told Cohen to piss off.

Cohen then hired Lemonis who apparently rode a tide of momentum by a very good baseball team to a title before crashing and burning for years after not being able to recruit, coach, or keep his arse off that bucket in the dugout.

He paid zero attention to the new era of CFB pertaining to NIL and basically set MSU back getting it started. Even then outside alumni had to kickstart it.

His politics, and his wife’s pushing of it continually, turned off boosters and alumni.

His ONLY good thing was hiring Leach. And that was right place, right time hiring.

Really good baseball coach. Was power hungry so he convinced Keenum to let him be AD. Got scared that MSU wasn’t going to support the programs thru the NIL era and abandoned his Alma Mater. Fan base was already fed up with him by that time so he bolted. His wife was very vocal politically and that rubbed people around town the wrong way. If I recall correctly she led a gay pride parade once in Starkville.

He was a wildly unpopular AD at State. Seemed to have a baseball first mindset even as AD and let other sports go by the wayside. Will forever be the AD that allowed Dan Mullen and Vic Schaefer to leave and hired very subpar choices to replace them (I realize Nikki McCray-Penson has since passed away and mean no disrespect to her personally, but her one year as State’s WBB coach was a mess).

Also Cohen just was totally unprepared for the NIL era and spent his time constantly complaining and making excuses for why it wasn’t sustainable while the other SEC program in the state was embracing it and moving forward with the times.

I’ll give credit to his time as baseball coach because he resurrected State baseball from the dead and set the stage for an awesome run from 2016-2021. But yeah, screw that guy. I have never celebrated a coach or administrator departure from State as much as I did the day it came out he was Auburn bound.

Starkville has a pride parade every year. The horror, oh the horror.

Cohen didn't leave town for political reasons. He left for a pay raise at a better athletic department. He got no traction when trying to raise money for NIL at MSU. To be fair, I don't think he's a particularly good AD but he does at least aim high in his pursuit of coaches. Leach at MSU, Kiffin at Auburn, hired two coaching staffs that contributed to the first national championship of any sport at MSU, and hired Chris Jans.

He helped get the Auburn big wigs to finally commit some money to help Hugh in year 3 though it may be too little too late for Hugh.

Dude…. If you don’t know…. Don’t act like you do.

Aim high in pursuit of coaches? Moorhead? Cannizaro? Running off Vic Schafer? Lemonis?

He would have never pulled off the O’Connor hire either. The proof is the fumbling of the Schlossnagle hire and the clown show that happened afterwards where he was out of options and had to rely on Dan McDonnell for a recommendation of friken Lemonis.

Got no traction in NIL?? He absolutely was behind the curve and never got the ball rolling. He saw it as a flash in the pan thing and not the future. How did that turn out?

Cannizaro is likely what you got the natty. He was a shithead but he stocked the cupboard so well that even Lemonis couldn't frick it up. State was a media darling when they hired Moorhead. Hindsight is 20/20 but that was widely regarded as a great hire when it happened.

State's aversion to NIL 100% contributed to Cohen leaving. It took Selmon two years to get any meaningful contributions and it's still the lowest in the conference. Your fans have had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the new era and you know it. Again, I don't think he's a great AD but to act like he was the worst thing to happen to MSU like several fans seem to be doing is just incorrect. He was an average director at a below average department and if State doesn't pony up for Lebby, you'll get to see Selmon's real hiring chops sooner than you think.

State’s aversion to NIL? His job was to do what Selmon is currently doing. That comment is wildly inaccurate

Media darling? You mean basic covering of a coaching change?

Most every hire seems like a great hire when it happens. But fact is he completely failed on the women’s BB hire after enthusiastically waving bye to Schafer, he blew the FB hire after Mullen, He blew TWO baseball hires, he had zero fundraising chops and watched the Bulldog Club numbers crumble from the Mullen era.

Yea. Selmon must be an absolute wizard to be doing what he is doing since MSU “has an aversion to NIL”.

Selmon has had more success because State folks have finally realized that NIL wasn't going away overnight. And yes, as I said Cohen wasn't particularly good at that but he got no traction when he started trying.

Didn't his wife scrub her social media before the move to Auburn was official? People alluded to her being super woke and posting some crazy stuff.
