Dre Kirkpatrick.
Before him, Jay Barker.

I'm pretty sure he was Mr. Football in two different states.
Doesnt really mean that much as far as being rated really high coming out of high school.

If a guy like that had signed with Auburn or Tennessee this past year he would be being used as more than one user's sig image today.
lol that is ridiculous.

It's not that Pagan is a bad player, he's really good. Though for someone to earn that hype without starting a game is pretty heavy praise.
the last two guys I remember that were worthy of that hype without ever starting a game are T-Rich and CyKo. Pagan isnt on that level.

it means something. it means the media recognizes him as a very good player. i'd bet that he was on the rivals250. Those HS all-american games mean something too. Sunseri had some hype coming out of HS. It was warranted too because anyone who ever saw him play in HS will tell you that he straight layed the wood on RBs and QBs. But people were uncertain what position he would play and that has been an issue so far in his young career.

Dre Kirkpatrick.

Doesnt change the fact that he has done better than most 3-stars. He is not overrated. He has flaws, sure, but most players do.

I will say to my discredit, I was wary of the Dareus talk before the 2009 season. He was getting that level of hype, and it caught me off guard.

I can't count how many times people had to come in and clean up his "hits."
He did well on the Rivals stat sheet. He was nowhere near the complete, physical backs we've become accustomed to.

im not saying he's overrated. i'm just saying he was highly regarded coming out of high school. i actually think he has peformed better than expected.

i dont think Dareus got much media hype in '09. he was in Mt Cody's shadow until he raided the University of Texas football program on national tv.
Knocked out the golden boy QB in the first quarter of the national championship. Second quarter: interception, spin move, stiff arm, TD return, penalty for excessive celebration. And nobody in the media saw it coming.

The most overhyped player on Bama is Adrian Hubbard. He's projected as a 1st rounder and he's done nothing to warrant that, so far.
He had more tackles and sacks than Dion Jordan or Ziggy Ansah both top 10 pass rushers this year

It wasn't so much mainstream media, but it was all that could be talked about on BOL(when it was still on Rivals). The "writers" and posters were raving about him, and I had no idea where it was coming from. His trainer was even on there pumping him up.
That season and game put him on the map nationally, I think Kiper had him on his Big Board within a week after that game for the next season.
I was personally sold on the play he dropped in coverage against Tennessee. To see him run like, even though he gave up the catch to a TE, was mindblowing.

We had some good talk going on here till somebody threw out Dre.
Regarding Sunseri, I dont think he's overrated. Actually he's out playing his physical limitations with good technique and solid football IQ. Unfortunately, it's still not quite good enough to be a starter in our secondary.
To answer the OP, I with several of the other guys who've already nailed it: A. Hubbard.
